i still like the boost guage on the pillar because its TONS easier to read and i'm not going to be looking down at the boost guage when there is a wall like 4 feet away and i'm going 90+. u should get all of then that u would get without
 
I would say get a boost gauge for safety reason. if your avc-r malfunction then you know you have a back-up gauge.
 
i have an avc-r and i run a boost guage, the guage on the avc-r is very accurate and very responsive but it isnt in PSI so for tuning i like to have both, plus you can never have to much information about what your car is going through when you are driving
 
i only have the AVCr as a boost gauge.....and yes if I had a bit of cash to toss around, Id get a boost gauge. AVCr isnt so bad because you can actually record the run and see where boost is dropping off .
 
AVC-R is just a #@%#@%#@%#@%#@% to tune. Too damn smart for a damn boost controller. Get me a MBC please and with the $475 I just saved I can get me a nice FMIC core.
 
I have both, not to thrilled with the thing though. mabey I'll get it tuned when its time to take the car out again this spring. I have found that my gauges differ a little, although it might be my eyes. I tend to trust the boost gauge that has the vac line on the back, but it is always running higher. I think my car may have some issues though
 
im not understanding where everyone says the avc-r is hard to tune, just hook it up, and set it up the way you want it, it might be a little more time consuming than turning a knob on an MBC but c'mon its not brain surgery, and the rewards are well worth it
 
I wish it was just like that. Set the boost to 1.00 bar and mess around with duty numbers until you see 15 psi on the gauge. That's far from simple for a damn boost controller. Once you figure out how to play with it, there's a lot of crap you can do with it. But for the price, I don't think it's worth it.
 
the duty cycle is the ratio of closed to open on the solenoid itself, thats all, you would only set it to control any major fluxuations in your boost in basic mode, on the stock td05 i run it at 55% it jumps right to 14.7 and stays put, the nice thing is that if you want you can set the ne-points like the safc and then adjust the duty cycle and boost level for each set rpm level
 
I also have an AVC-R and have been fairly happy with it thus far. I have figured out how to tune it correctly as well....however, one problem. The RPMs sensor has been acting very strangely...when I try to monitor RPMs, they read correct for a bit, then spike very quickly up to a high RPM for a moment, then drop down to actual.
I have checked the settings, and have set the cylinders to "2" (not 4 as is a common mistake), and also set the throttle position sensor correctly This stinks, because I got the darn thing to dynamically build boost, as hitting hi psi early in a race is fatal with my FWD. :(
