Ok I have been having this major issue. I am trying to take out my o2 sensor so I can replace it since it has gone bad now I guess it has been there since the car came from mitsubishi back in 93' becuase it will not budge. I put wd-40 all over it to see if it will eat the rust away I even let it sit over night to see if it just needed more time to get threw the rust and nothing now. I have been using the o2 sensor socket and a breaker bar to try to take it out and al I keep doing is going in circle's but its not moving I don thtin kI striped it becuase when I look at it it still has all sides and all sidea are pretty even with eachother. So I was wondering if anyone has had this problem and how did they over come it (taking the o2 sensor out) and if you coul possibly let me know so I can start driving my car again.

PS...
I would rather not take the o2 housing out since I am missing to screws and taking it out would requre stuff that I dont want to do like getting a new gasket and bolts for that. I dont have the funds to get all those things right now..remember I do own a budget DSM so any help would be aprriciated.

Thanks,
Aramis:dsm: :talon:

Try using PB blaster. The stuff works wonders. You can by PB blaster at any hardware or auto store. Hope you can get it out.

Try alternating between heating it up with some propane and hitting it with PB blaster or equivalent penetrant. If you have a impact wrench, try using that with the o2 sensor socket (which if you don't already have, you can rent from autozone for free). If it's indeed rounded out, try using some vicegrips to get a hold of the sensor. Good luck.

Well thanks for your help fellas. Well I will try pb blaster tonight I herd about that but I thought it was the same as wd-40 I guess its stronger and also when you say heating it up you mean letting the car idle until car is hot and the spray it with pb blaster??? And what is a impact wrench and how can I use that and what for ... is that what I would use if the sensor is stripped ??

No, I mean heating it up with a propane torch.

An impact wrench is a high-powered socket 'gun' (for lack of better definition) you can use to loosen and tighten bolts. They're either air driven (you need an air compressor) or electric. Definitely worth having if you're planning on doing work on your car.

If the sensor is stripped, an impact wrench might not help. They do make sockets for getting at rounded at bolts, check sears or autozone. You can also try using locking vice grips, they'll get a good grip on the socket.

It was a big pain to get my o2 sensor out. We tried an o2 sensor socket, and we broked that. Went to advance, and found another o2 sensor socket that the ratchet attaches to the side of the socket. Giving it a more elleptical look to it. It was much stronger, and were able to get the o2 sensor out with that, and the breaker bar.

I have found that O2 sockets are a big pain and tend to break when used with an impact. If the sensor is shot, cut the wires off and use a regular deep socket. I don't think a propane torch will get it hot enough....you need acetylene. Save yourself the headache if it doesn't come out with the breaker bar (if you need more leverage, slip a long pipe over it), and let a shop do it. Any decent shop should have it out for you in 5 minutes TOPS.

Well it seems to me that the o2 socket is a POS it just doesnt catch grip so what I will end up doing is the worse I didnt want to do which was cutting the wires and sticking a deep socket in the and going at it with that with a the breaker bar. Becuase if this does not take it out I cant even drive my car to the shop I go to becuase I wont be reading a o2 sensor since it is cut and the car will run like shit or will it even run..???

I'm pretty sure it will run, the ECU takes many inputs into consideration when determining fuel trim and ignition timing. I had a bad o2 sensor a while back, car still ran, albeit probably a little rich. You'll throw a check engine light though, nothing to worry about, when you get a new o2 sensor and plug it in, the light will go away.

Besides, if you have a new sensor waiting to go in, who cares if you cut the wires on the old one, you'll just be scrapping it anyways.

PB blaster is the best thing since sliced bread. Probably even better. I really suggest using it if you haven't already.

Ive had trouble with o2 sockets not going down far enough, most of the time its because the wires stick up too far. Cut the wires off flush with the top of the sensor, as others have said, it should come off like that with a regular deep one too.

I PB blasted the crap out of it as everyone else said, then after failing for a while a female friend of mine went under the car and gorilla-armed it out.

Moral of story: PB blaster is godly, and I'm a little princess

Well guys just wanted to give you an update for future dsmer's on how to take out there o2 sensor. I did what you guys told me and i drove the car until heated then soaked it in pb blaster let it sit for like 1 min and then since im replacing the o2 sensor I cut old wires and stuck a deep socket 7/8 in the and it just came right off. So thanks for all you guys help.
