Anyone ever install a mangusmotorsport intake manifold? If so what, hows the performance increase and what additinoal mods will I need to do? IE: Relocating the coilpack:barf:

I did a post a while back describing Venom intake installation. It was a PITA but you can find my old post for more details.

Magnus will have all the Venom problems, plus you might have to redo your upper I/C piping, depending on where it puts the throttle body.

One good thing about Venom was that that I did not have to change I/C plumbing. In retrospect, it was a minor thing :).

Driveablity wise, I did not notice a huge differance, frankly, your turbo will be much more important in that respect.

The first version of the intake he sold, the one I hosted the group buy for, required hacking of the upper i/c pipe. That may have changed, however.

Yeah well aware of the 2 inch drop from location for the IC piping.

Magnusmotorsports is currently selling them for 499 now...i know that venoms can be more expensive if you have it polished.

Think the Magnusmotorsport can outflow the Venom?

I started a thread a while back about a new manifold that you might want to consider. The Forrester Racing Heads cast intake manifold has been dyno proven to gain 37hp on a medium HP car. www.automotosports.com sells them for about 525. This also requires some modifications of the intercooler pipe. The great thing about this one is that since it is cast and a 2 piece design, you can port out the runners to any size you want. Also, it comes with a phonelic spacer which will keep the intake manifold cooler. Vernon Naidou and Adams 10 second Galant both run them. I have one on my car and it drives great. As you can read in the other thread, Dale has one on his 1990 bone stock daily driver and has no drivability issues. Read on this thread if you have any questions.

thanks for the input...anyone every here of BJs cylinder head intakes?

BJ's is a very reputable machine shop, but i must admit i have never heard of their intakes. However, if your list of mods is current, you would probably be much better off spent in terms of performance for the money by purchasing a set of cams. Just my $.03

Yeah, I know, thats actually next...i'm just afraid that will f'up my bottom end. its a stock 2g block. not sure if it will be able to handle everything I have now + a set of HKS 264/272 cams...what do you think?

I think Tim at AMS had a BJs cylinder head Sheet Metal intake manifold and he sold in in favor of Dale's. By just comparing the two on looks alone (not astetics but flow capability) he sold it. They sheet metal looked good but he had to wait for 4 months for it and paid almost 1K. Not worth it in my opinion.

Whats Dales website address so I can check out his manifold...
how about the one by magnusmotorsports?

I can't imagine you'd run into problems with a set of HKS cams. As i understand it, there's quite a few pushing the 425-450 mark with stock bottom ends.

Right, but if you hook up with someone doing group buy on Venom, I have seen them as cheap as $380 for anodized versions.

Not sure... For what it is worth, Venom is definitely larger, but that does not mean much. Part of the problem is that no one seem to have done side by side independent testing, ether on a dyno or a drag strip. So you take a gamble with which ever model you go with.

Make sure to have your intake plained on the surface to the head. My Venom looked nice and straight, but I now have an intake to head seal leak on what was properly torqued new intake manifold gasket. Now I suspect that the intake was not straight.

When I told of this to one of local Club DSM members with Magnus intake, he said that his intake was also not straight and had to be plained.

So quality seems to be the same on all sheet metal intakes: POOR!

I have a Magnus intake manifold. I don't have any before and after affects of it, but I do think it helped in top end. As for quality, it is rock solid. I have an older one with silicone runners, I polished it myself. The new ones are very well made, and I would probably buy the Magnus over a Venom. I have no proof, I just like their intake mani. ;)

Oh, and my car made 435WHP on pump gas, and 526.6WHP on C16.

Someone should do flow testing on a 1G intake, Venom, Magnus, BJS, forrester and maybe a 2G intake for $hits and giggles.

I'm starting to wonder if its really worth inventing money on Drag intakes over a 1G intake.

Flow testing is nice and all, but I would prefer dyno testing... I have seen some really wacky flow number and they do not always translate to HP. This is especially true for manifolds (intake and exhaust), which are dependent on individual cylinder pulses.

What turbo are you using? What RPMs are you going to take it to?

1G intake is very good for 11's. You can even run 10's with it, but that is where sheetmetal intakes will help you most.

Dale had done flow bench testing on his manifold vs a 1G manifold vs a 1G extrude hone. He now has a magnus intake manifold that he will be flowing eventually and he might test the BJs too. I am trying to remember these numbers as they are from several months ago but he said an extrude hone only picked up 9cfm from a stock 1G intake manifold. His manifold gained over 10% more flow than a 1G manifold and this was with his first prototype before his final revision. But he said that main concern was that there was almost 10% difference between air flow on a 1G intake manifold between runner 2 and runner 3. I think his manifold only had 3 cfm different between 2 and 3. Take it for what it is worth in terms of this just being rough figures from memory. I will ask him to re flow everything if he can and to get real numbers.

Yes. Dyno and Flow testing would definetly be a great comparison.

- What kind of UIC can you use if you choose to go with something other than a 2G, 1G or Venom Intake manifold. Is it a custom fit or does anyone out there sell intercooler pipes for drag intakes?
