2g Turbo ECU Question

Okay I bought an ecu awhile ago off a guy and he said it was out of a 99 gst. I have a 98 gsx. I got this ecu and it has a black plastic housing and not the brass metal housing like most dsm's have. Has anyone heard of this before? I just bought a 97 gsx ecu and it is brass and wierd enough no check engine light now. Is it possible this guy screwed me over? Also will a 99 ecu work on a 98? I installed one and i have cel and it runs like ass. Thanks

The brass looking ones are on the eariler years, the ecu that came from my 98 has the black plastic case. As far as I know the ecu's should be a direct swap as 97-99 have the same CAS.

Okay thanks....yeah I bought one from a 99 and have a brass one from a 97 and they look completely different as far as the board looks. They both worked but the one from the 97 for some reason keeps the cel off. I dont know. I am making my car stock again after selling an AEM. Thanks
