mounting a test pipe

I just clogged my cat up and need a test pipe now. I am getting full turbo exhaust for christmas and I was curious if I could get a 3 inch test pipe now and mount it to my stock exhaust and then when i get the downpipe and cat back then mount it to that(The downpipe and catback will be 3 inch)

are u sure the stock exhaust is 2.5?
because i remember some people saying that they upgraded to a 2.5" then had to upgrade again to a 3" exhaust when they upgraded the turbo
