what would be the pros and cons to comparing a ported exhaust manifold and o2 housing vs. replacing the units with a tubular manifold and new larger o2 housing, wanted to know before preceeding with purchase....thanks

Im not sure exactly what you are talking about when you say tubular exhaust manifold. It would make a pretty big difference depending on what manufacturer you are looking at. Generally speaking a regular 95 ported manifold would be the cheapest/best solution.

In your wishlist it says that you are looking to go to a t3/t4. If that is the case then you will need a very different type of manifold then you would if you are going to use a bolt on turbo. Could you please clarify your question a bit so we can give you a better answer.

sure, sorry about that, i have been thinking a lot about what turbo to upgrade to and i think i need to adjust my wishlist, i was thinking about the bigt28killer now and have been for a little while since i have been reading the posts, as for manifolds, i was talking about the turbo performance tubular header and hahn racecraft o2 or buschur racing o2 housing compared to porting the stock parts, sorry about the confusion

i'd like to have as many opinions as possible before buying, since my car is in the shop, i'm just sitting here thinking about one of the next steps for boosting performance (manifold/housing)...thanks again

Well I did some searching around and I didn’t specifically find a t28 killer but MachV was selling a big 16 killer of 2n gens so I am going to assume that is pretty close to what you are talking about. You have to take price into account when making any turbo purchase. I would never ever spend anything more than $800 for a turbo of that size. I know that MachV usually charges high retail but I saw they wanted 1400 dollars for that turbo. The only thing I can come up with is that they must be out of their mind. That much money for a bolt on turbo that makes less that 300hp to the wheels is just plain stupid. If you are looking for a turbo of that size you wont be anywhere close to out flowing your stock 02 housing when ported. It would be more wasted money. You really don’t need to go replacing that until you are dealing with a much larger turbo or switching over to an external wastegate.

gotha, thank you very much for searching rdrkt, i was originally looking at a T3/T4, and i know i would have needed a diff manifold with external wastegate, but after thinking about money spent and goals of just beeing a very quick street dsm, and not really drag i figured that big t28 killer or 16g would make more sense, but you don't think that its all that necessary to port the manifold and o2 housing with that turbo set up (t28/16g, fmic, pump and injectors)? again, thanks for you time and input

Actually I told you twice that porting your stock components would be a good idea.

Well it all depends on what you think a very quick street DSM is. A properly tuned 16g with the right fuel mods and a FMIC should be able to do 108+ traps and make a bit under 275 to the wheels on pump gas. However you are probably a bit heavier than even an awd car so you have to keep that in mind. You should also keep in mind that a quick spooling turbo is almost a detriment in an open differential fwd car.

sorry, misunderstood, but what in your mind would be necessary to get a daily driver drop top GST into the 12s or at least low 13s , besides turbo and fmic??

i've had the spyder about 5 months now and i absolutely love it, i used to drive hondas but recently made the switch, i love the sleeper look, and the car only has 25,000 orig miles on it, please lemme know what you feel the next few steps are in reaching the goals listed above, i'd really rather have a fast street car than a quick drag car....i know what mods are listed in performance section but i just wanted to hear what worked best out on the street, especially from a wiseman, thanks rdrkt

i have a friend that runs 13.00 on an open diff fwd....with a big 16g, 660s, ported manifold, 3" exhaust and o2 dump, forged JEs and eagle rods for reliability....also has an afc, fmic, intake and crank pulley. he would be in the 12.s if he could stop spinning....perhaps a quaife is the next best part for him. just to give you an idea also, he ran an ete52 and managed only 14.3s....so bigger is not always better
