Looking to get a 97 dms turbo next week and reading all about the crankwalk problem, just wondering what it takes to fix it if it happens and how much it usually cost?

I dont want any other info on crank walk, just how much it cost to fix and/or whats involved in fixing it, I dont even own the car yet.

I have no clue what its cost to fix it but how you fix it is based on severity if you catch it early you can get away with just replacing the bearings(but thos new bearings will go in about 10000 mi.) if its really bad you will half to replace the bottom end.

Generally people don't catch crankwalk in its early stages as the car still seems to run normally. If you buy second gen get a warranty so the dealership can pay for your new bottom end. Just make sure you keep all your stock parts so that you can convert the car back to stock when you take it in for service if something brakes.

I was concerned with that myself, but I just got the warranty and said f it, I like the car I'll take the chance. If it gets really bad you can just drop in a 6bolt engine and be done with it, no big deal.

There is no guarantee even if you car is under warranty and you get it fixed that it won't crankwalk again. I wish someone could actually trace the problem. There are alot of good theories out there on what causes it...the bearings, oil squirters, etc. If I ever get it (knock on wood), I just put in a 6 bolt which I already have now anyhow, just need to start ordering parts for it.

Just for future information should I ever get crankwalk, what parts do you need for this conversion and how much does the total cost average with and without parts. Also, do all 1st and 2nd gen 4G63T motors have interchangeable parts?
