Will I need a clutch upgrade?

Shiloh,
Right now I have a stock spec clutch that has bout 25k miles on it, and since then I've started modding my car. I plan on putting in more mods before track season starts (around mar. 25-26 here) and I was wondering if my stocker will likely give out with the mods, (in which case I'll save some money for an act2600) or if I'll be ok. I've went to the track about 7 times last season (roughly 35-40, 5k rpm launches). Current mods are in profile (I am still on the ported 14b w/ 34mm flapper), in addition, the things I will most likely be adding before track season are listed below (ive already started ordering some, mainly a new eprom ecu). I was also wondering how much improvement in 60ft times i could expect from a heavier clutch (the best I pulled in the stocker was a 1.9, seems to hold, but not sure if it was slipping with the current mods) or if my driving is whats needing improvement...

Aeromotive AFPR
Extreme Intercooler's Race Front mount

GM MAF
MAFT
Intake of some sort

Thanks for your input.
BTW I wasn't sure which section this was more appropriate for because it deals with bolt ons, but also on drivetrain, please move if needed.

which clutch is it bud? there are a lot of "stock spec" clutch kits out there. some are absolute garbage, some really aren't too bad.

the only part of what you wrote it how many launches you are hitting with it. If they are far in between then it should be ok. You don't want to over do yourself with the clutch either. Your mods don't really require serious clamping force. Check out some clutch kits like the spec stage 2 or competition 2100. Awesome clutches, affrodable and they both offer amazing pedal pressure.

best of luck

Once it starts going, you'll know. And when you do upgrade, get the 2600. I LOVE mine in my FWD. Great clutch, easy pedal and engagement with a properly stepped flywheel, and with the street (full faced) disc, it should last for a long time, too.

So don't sweat it until you really need it. You will know when you need it. So save up for the day that it does come.

I honestly don't know the name or brand, its one my dad ordered through a parts store (auto zone or O'reilly's, when my throwout bearing went bad from my Ram Powergrip he decided to replace the clutch with a new one). As far as the launches, each one was after a 30-40 minute cooldown and about 6 or 7 a session (per week).

It's hard to say if your stock clutch will hold up. I know that mine burned out after about 3000 miles and some racing with minimal mods. After it burned out I got an act2600 and I really like it. I'd say just keep the money that you have for an act2600 and if the stock clutch burns out then buy a 2600.
