Will a 1st gen radiator fit a 2nd gen the reson Im asking is because I got a Dn performance manifold part # dnp 37 and it is in the way of the upper radiator hose . The manifold was designed for a 1g and they dont tell you this until you already have it and it doesnt fit.

MOD EDIT: They are the same size (dimensionally), but are not directly interchangeable. However, it can be made to fit with little modfication. See post #28 for more details.

A 1g radiator does fit a 2g no one replied fast enough so I went to my shop and tried it for myself . The only thing is that you have to drill the driver side radiator mount out and play with the upper mounts to get them to work.

That may be a dumb question. But I am running the Victory Performance tubular manifold and they give you a hard upper radiator hose for the 2g's so it doesnt hit the runner. But it is still way too close for comfort. I was wondering if I could just swap in a 1g radiator and upper hose and be done with it. If I cant, is there any other options I could do other than using this uber close upper pipe I have now?

I can't say for certian if a 1g will bolt into a 2g (though im gonna say no) but i can tell you a 2g won't drop right into a 1g. The 2 mounting rods(?) that are one the bottom that go through the rubber mounts to keep it in place don't line up. Now the dimensions of the radiator were fine. Now i know the inlet/outlet on the radiator is alittle different from a 2g but not by much. It looked like i could still use my stock 1g hoses with a 2g radiator when i mocked it up.

Actually a 2g radiator can go into a 1g but it obviously ins't a direct bolt in. I know a couple people who have done this, not sure what all they had to do (reposition the bottom mounts, etc) but it can be done.

Alls you have to do for a 1G Radiator to fit a 2G is to cut off the bottom bracket and move it to line up and weld it back on. On one of our customers cars we put a 1G Fluidyne in a 2G and there weren't any issues since it's the same height and the top end tank is the same other than where the upper cooling hose comes in. This should also fix the clearance issue with the VPE manifold. This is what I'm planning on doing when I buy that manifold from Scott for my car and was just talking to him about this same issue this week.

When NEAsport did this it was with a METAL fluidyne radiator. Now i know that some 1g's had metal ones from the factory but not most. You won't be able to follow that advice if your using a plastic radiator. Unless there's something i don't know about welding plastic.

ah, maybe you were right. I looked at the brackets, and it looks like the brackets on the frame would be a pretty big pain to move. I think moving the mounting points on the bottom of the radiator would be easier.

Or for the DIY guy at home you could use metal plates to relocate the bottom rubber bushings that the radiator sits in, of course making sure they are strong enough to support the radiator when it is full of coolant. Two rectangular plates, two large bolts/washers, drill out the plates to accept the stock bushings and reuse them. Just an idea, hope you get it all worked out.

You could take off one of the mounting points from the radiator. I can't say that only 3 points will be enough for the radiator but it is another option.
I finally found an easy way around this. My dad is the manager at a body shop so they do all of business with a local radiator place. So I had him call them and see what they could do with my radiator. My car has a 2g metal radiator and I also have a 1g metal radiator. They are going to take the bottom tank off my 2g radiator and put it on my 1g radiator. Problem solved.:D

i put a alum racing rad in my 1g it was for a 2g and it does not line up right at the bottom mounts so i had to make some but i got it in and looks great with in about 15mins

Thanks for the info.! But my question is still not answered.......:toobad: Try replying with good answers instead of just trying to wrack up a bunch of posts on your account.

She may not have spelled it out for you but her post clearly implies that fabrication will be needed to make this work, perhaps she gave you too much credit and should have spelled out everything for you. In any case, please be repectful of other members, especially when they're trying to help you. ;)

You're 100% correct and the post is appreciated but next time please report the post and let the moderators handle it. :thumb:

Funniest thing in the world is that it took four hours for someone to reply to the question, but it took about 30 minutes for someone to complain about my being rude. I am not being rude or a dick. She told me that a fabbed after market part made for a 2g would not fit in a 1g. That says nothing about a 1g OE radiator being able to go into a 2g front end. I apologize for my rudeness but her post told me nothing useful. I have also since reffered the person who needed to know to a Mitsu. mechanic who has taken care of the problem. Thanks for the advice about being rude, now hows about some advice about how and what to post?

ok just went threw my post and then found that you were who ya what ever but i put a 2g rad in my 1g the bottom mounts didnt mount up right so i had to bed the drivers side down and knock out the rubber busshing also for any one wonderingthe bottom hose line up perfect but the upper house is in the middle so it dont exactly fit but i made it fit and it works fine just slightly off i want to do a right up on this but im going to wait til i get slim line fans and my digi cam back from the shop and ill also have some one type it up wiht better typing skills sorry so sloppy but yea even if this didnt help you i hope it helps some one needing to know

can a 90-94 eclipse turbo radiator work or fit on a 2g 99 eclipse GSX?? both are turbo engines, with manual trannys just want to make sure before i buy this fluidyne radiator form a friend.

Actually, they arent interchangeable. The upper hose outlet is in different positions between the two. The 2g also doesnt have the boss in the bottom for the sensor/switch. As far as actual size, I dont know if they are the same or not so the only way to tell is to compare the 2 and see what the dimensions are.

Part #'s are as follows
1g, 90-94 FHP11-90MIT
2g, 95-99 FHP11-95MIT
