this is based off of the SBR race intercooler.. but has anyone seen any other company just sell a core like this?

this IMO is a true short route side to side FMIC. IF ANYONE has info on something like this, mass produced.. please let me know!

TIA

FIC-2gC
DSM 2g BIG (Racing) Front Mount Intercooler (core only)

Get a "Racing" Front Mount for the price of a "Street" model!

Made from a new 28"wide x 10.5"hi x 3"thk side to side flow core. End tanks are 1/8" thk aluminum. Inlet and outlet are 2 1/2"dia. beaded tube. The IC is all TIG welded. Keep your A/C. Minor trimming of bumper is required. Stock fog lights go. Bracket is included to relocate the coolant overflow bottle to old sidemount location. Requires relocation or removal of PS cooling line (and Automatic Trans cooler). Must replace AC fan (drivers side) with low profile unit - see below. Pipes include all couplings, clamps and fastners.

IC hangs from existing radiator core support holes and new holes under front frame. Note the standard lower pipe set is made for down flow turbo compressors like the Mitsu 20g, Garrett's, and many others. It includes a 2" to 2 1/4" dia. steel elbow and couplings (not the rubber elbow shown).

Upper IC Connection: Cut a 2 5/8" hole in the radiator core support and connect the two-piece pipe which replaces the throttle body elbow and fits under the Compressor Intake Pipe Choose your favorite BOV flange from 1gDSM, Greddy, Blitz, HKS, Apex'i and Turbo XS.

Lower IC Connection: Just plug & play. See pic below. However the PS cooling loop must be removed or moved.

*Due to size and weight we will charge for the actual shipping cost.

FIC-2gC core only for DSM-2g - $549 (regular $599)

bruce,
I consider this short route because it's the shortest way to route the IC piping (as far as length in feet of the piping). the way this is routed is through the radiator bracket instead of going through the traditional stock location of the UICP/SMIC. When I converted from one to the other, I saved a good 2-3 feet of piping.. here i'll go grab some pictures..

versus.

plus swapping to a bigger FMIC with this design let's me use the pipes I've already made :D

i actually did the same thing to my top to bottom flowing spearco intercooler. i got it for $80 off of ebay. i had made tubing for it that was really long and went to the stock upper intercooler pipe location. and the bottom or lower intercooler pipe swung out the side just like yours. but then i wanted to make a cold air intake and the upper tubing got in the way. so i redid the tubing and made the piping exit the turbo, then go through the radiator support, go in the intercooler and then the piping cam back out of the top part of the intercooler and i amde the tubing go through the radiator support again and up to the throttle body. i also saved a few feet of tubing. i was able to make a cold air intake, and the tubing was so much shorter that if i just accelerated a little, boost would come instantly. the shorter the route the better, and also my lower tubing or the tubing exiting the turbo is only 2" and the one going from the intercooler to the throttle body is 2.5".
this is just my experience,
later

should I be scared? LOL

thanks for the help guys! keep 'em coming.. I can't justify spending 500+ dollars on a core :sosad:
why dont you just use a core long enough so that both outlets can be rear facing, like us 1g guys have been all along?

yet another good reason to not drive the fatter 7bolt dsm. (jk, you guys still pull some amazing shit off too. and i must say your car is a lot better for daily driving, but who drives daily anymore anyways? ROFL )

Thems fightin' words right there.

From what i have seen its too much of a pain in the ass to make one of those intercoolers work on a 2g.

Care to share more info? Got any pics? Although I like the idea of short route pipping, I don't know if it justifies cutting info the fame, as I still do daily drive this one.

I did have to notch the frame and weld in some different braces ( I'll post some pics tomorrow its to dark and cold out side right now ) but I already had this intercooler sitting around and it is a 4&1/2 '' thick core I couldn't resist making it fit

I wish I had access to a welder (and other better shop tools) Oh well.. I'm in search now for a core that is the same as the dejon tool one, but for cheaper. again, I can't justify spending 500 bucks on an intercooler. I really just can't. But then again, last time I checked in the summer I was pulling 128* intake temps .

sigh, damn money pits.

SOLUTION!:thumb:
if you have the one-sided intercooler inthere now, just bolt one of these in with ease, cheap too.

wowOMG
I would have bucked up and spent the extra money for an actual kit instead of doing that. well.. you know what they say whatever you got more of, use it. "time or money"

Thought I'd pitch in a little. ;) Be warned, my set up is a little ghetto.

That's the hotpipe coming from the turbo. It's about 6-7" long until it comes upon 2 90* bends. ... Which then goes to ...

The intercooler inlet. (black pipe at the bottom)

Closeup of the radiator support cut-out. The outlet pipe going to the engine goes above the hotpipe at the bottom. I used 2.25" piping 'cause it's really tight ...

Yes. It seals.

There's a bunch of other little things that I did ... If anyone wants any help, PM or e-mail me and I'll be happy to offer a little advice. :)

car's been sitting in my driveway collecting dust for almost 2 years now so I figured why not see what I can do with what I already got besides I just paid like $700 for that intercooler less than a year ago

I don't want to get off topic, but I disagree. There's no point in purchasing an entire FMIC kit unless you want to spend needless $$$ on shiny pipes. Although i must admit Turbo Shogun went a little overboard on saving money :tease: LOL
