I was wondering if it would be OK to just run race gas all the time in my car. Keep in mind I only drive it like 1 or 2 days a week when the weather's nice, and only for fun.

If I just kept race gas in it all the time, would my plugs suffer, or my O2 sensor, or my wideband O2 sensor? Does it decrease any normal driveability?

Thanks-

If you're planning on running leaded race gas, then yes, there will be downstream effects from doing so to the O2, cat, plugs and wideband. A better alternative, in your case, would be to pick up some Torco Unleaded Accelerator Concentrate. I've used it before and it makes 93 pump react as if it were 104-107 octane depending on the mixing ratios while still being friendly to the cat, wideband and O2. You can find more information here:

While I would normally say that driving on race gas only 1-2 days per week would be OK, I'm concerned the most for your wideband, which definitely won't handle lead. If you're dead set on running leaded gas, then you'll need to replace the oxygen sensor, but you'll still need to remove the cat (if you have one) and wideband. Info on the Denso sensor you'll need is here:

I've run both the Torco products and mixed race and pump gas and by far, the additive was the best way to go in terms of ease. It's not cheap, but it's cheaper than race gas and much more envionmentally friendly. It's also much more convenient, but that's just me. Although I'm tuned for pump gas only, when I change my settings for race, it's what I use. The only downside, other than cost is that it will turn your plugs brown and make them harder to read, but since you have a way to monitor A/F this shouldn't be an issue.

Hope that helps,

Andy

Thanks for the help Andy. I don't have a cat, but I don't want to damage my wideband so I'll check out the link you mentioned above. I'm not dead-set on leaded race gas, just wanting something more than old pump 93.

Thanks again-

You're welcome! See if you can find a Torco retailer in your area and try a can. I paid about $16.00 and it worked well enough to take my knock way down.

Glad that helped,

Andy

I'm the kind of guy who hates to wait for crap. I read your post, replied and thanked you, checked out the site you suggested, registered on the site, paid for and ordered a bottle already!

But yes, now I'll also see if I can find a local retailer... LOL

Wow that was quick! The only reason I mentioned a local retailer is that you can save considerably on the shipping. Drop me a line and let me know what you think of it when you run it. Just remember to either drop it in an empty tank and add fuel on top or mix it with 3-5 gallons of gas in a can and then dump it in otherwise it doesn't disperse properly.

Have fun with it!

Andy

Why don't you get alky injection? Altough I'm not a fan of anything other than c16 or at least the speedway 110 for any high boost applications, my friend was able to get tuned in at 26.5 psi at ams with alcohol. I never did like the additives ... seemed like a waste of money, and with 25 bottles ( less than 6 months assuming you only fill your tank ONCE a week ) you have already covered the cost of the alky system.

I run 101 all the time. Its only $4.00 a gallon at one station and $3.60 at another. So its basicly only a 1.50 more then 91 octane gas. And my car runs a million times better on 101 plus it gets 28mpg so its not like its that big of a deal.

There is a place about 20 mins. from that sells the Torco fuel stuff. But what I was wondering is how many gallons do you mix it with to make 93 go to 104?

I wanna try it out,
Josh

I always heard if you can afford race gas, you can afford O2 sensors. Right?

If i run nothing but C16 in my car, which i do quite often, it's not a daily driver, the OEM sensor lasts 6-8 months.
