is the DEFI EGT probe the same as the APEXI EGT probe?

i have an DNP exhaust manifold and the previous owner had a DEFI egt gauge with a defi probe...im about to purchase an APEXI egt gauge and i was just wondering if the apexi gauge will go into the fitting that is on the mani already...

Both probes are 1/8" but the DEFI is 28 turn BSPT and the APEXi is NPT. Very slight differences in threadcount so may/may not work for you without re-tapping :dsm:

Are you sure? K-type probes are 1/8th NPT if they have threading on the body. This is actually spec by the aeronautical engineering manual.

"K type" refers to the types of metals used in the thermocouple, chromium and aluminum, I believe. They are manufactured in a myriad of sizes: small enough to take the anal temperature of a bumblebee to large enough for a pachyderm and there is no standard for thread sizing.

Yes they come in many different sizes but for auto/aero/boat gauges they use 1/8" NPT fittings for EGT gauges. The only other size I have ever seen was a 1/4" NPT fitting and that was for a 1000+ HP V12 airplane engine and it took us a while to find a source for the probe.

/edit Ah kick me, Defi does use bspt for their japanese and euro market products.
