New to this sweet site..

Just bought the APEX N1 3" downpipe, which essentially eliminates the cat converter. Will this have any negative impact on the engine(other than making the 'check engine' lite come on?

thank

i've tried several things...02 wrapped in foil....the resistor mod from the fbodykiller website(on the vfaq.com) and also a box that simulates the o2 readings...only the last worked although it doesn't have a circuit for the heater element, so I wired in 12 ohms of resistance (with resistors rated at 10 watts) and melted my carpet....so I still have a CEL =0)

I've heard several things about this little deal over at dsm.org and a few others over the years. The thing that's going to help you the most is the fact that you DON'T have a '95 with an EPROM. Aparently, the '95's have various code changes while they were manufacturing (hence the EPROM). Some have no issues with no cat and a CEL, some do. Mine doesn't like test pipes. :D I get a CEL after driving for only a few hours after a reset. The '96's and up seem to be much more tolerant to no CAT than the '95's.

Good Luck,
Matt.

what month/year was yours built? Mine is an 9/04 and has 1G brakes on the back...figure that. I thought the guy at oreillys was crazy.

I have a VERY early build year. According to a few people I've talked to, it's one of the first 2G's ever produced. It was built in April of '94. I also have the vented rear discs. Count yourself lucky. The early builds didn't have crankwalk for some reason.

=problem solved, my first car was an 84 camaro and it would not pass smog becuase the cel was on so I went home took the dash off and crushed the light bulb with a pair of needle nose..... The next day at a different shop it passed smog, go figure:rolleyes:

But you will not pass smog without a cat. My cel was on for some other reason, i can't remember

It depends on what state you are in and how they do the test. In Arizona, if your car is OBDII equipped (96 and newer I think?), the emissions test consists of simply plugging into your ECU and seeing if there are any trouble codes. I have a high flow cat, but my second O2 sensor is not in the exhaust. It breathes fresh air and does indicate anything is wrong to the ECU. I COULD have had no cat and passed the test, I think. They had a mirror on a shaft to check if you physically had a cat. But they didn't even look with my car cause it's pretty low to the ground and they couldn't get their mirror under there. They were too damn lazy to get down on the ground and check.

I know another guy in Arizona with a 95 GSX that has NO emissions equipment. If your car isn't OBDII equipped, they put it on rollers and do a tailpipe test. But, they don't have rollers for AWD cars, so they skipped the tailpipe test.
