Ok I JUST bought this friggn 95 awd talon, drove it 50 miles. added my fmic. and took it out for a test drive and it drove fine then it started actin stupid. The RPM guage started jumpin all over the place, and the car got real stupid and lost like half its horse power. I thought it was a vac line came loose. Well I went to NAPPA and got a line for what I thought was loose even tho I didnt see any way the line was bad, anyways, jumped my car, it idled fine, drove it like 4 blocks and it started acting stupid again and then shut itself off while I was doin like 20mph down the road, so I coasted to the side and tried to start it, and it wouldnt start. Battery sounded like it had a full charge. I have no volt meter. Got my girl to come jump me, but that didnt help either. You can hear the motor turning over and the starter trying to start it, but the car wont start! grrr.

Anyone know what this could be?
I cleaned the battery terminals and they are shiny from sanding them down. They did have a bunch of blue crud on them.

I had something similar happen, turned out the ground wires for the battery had become corroded. i replaced them with some 4 Guage ones and all was well again. I have an egt Guage and that would just freak out, then the rpms would jump all over the place. Maybe try replacing the wires, if the terminals had corrosion on them maybe the wires are bad too.

Always start from the basics and don't make things too complicated right away. Make sure you got spark, fuel and compression. If all present then, check for timing by making sure all the timing marks lines up. If that checks out, it may be like one of the previous posts said that the crank angle sensor may have crapped out. Any CEL/DTC? If it is a crank angle sensor then, a 1G CAS conversion may be your best option.

I had this same exact problem last month. Come to find out my "new" terminals were junk. They were the black and red ones. I took em off and put plain old brass ones on it and it fixed it. Not after having to buy a new battery though. Also these dsms are bad for batterys failing with out warning. So check connections and ground wire like fournspyder said. good luck. :talon:

I would agree with PSIcho. Check for the basics-air, fuel, compression, spark. You mentioned that you just put on your FMIC. Could you have accidentally left off the plug to the alt? Might be that your alternator is finally old and dying too. Pull it and get it tested. Also the battery. Good luck.

Your car will run just fine without the alt if you have the battery charged. If their is enough juice to turn the motor over then their is enough juice for it to run as well. And also your terminals are corroded you would have issues with cranking it as well. I would pull out your crank angle sensor and see if it's chewed up. If so don't get a new one as you have crank walk and it would just happen again very soon. If you don't have the cash to rebuild your motor you can either just replace the main bearings in the car or you can get a 1G CAS and the plug n play harness from RRE and you could run your car for a little while until you can afford either a 6 bolt swap or a stock rebuild on the tired 7 bolt. I would just do the 6 bolt swap. If you do go with a CAS and the harness from RRE your 6 bolt swap will be a lot easier. My buddie has a 95 with a 6 bolt and with just the RRE harness for the CAS it doesn't throw any CEL's and runs like a champ.

I lean more towards the ground wires, the ground terminal is hella chewed up.
It's been running fine for the past couple days minus throttle is stuck at 3% making it idle at like 1,600 rpm. and a small oil leak from the oil return line, and a few other very small odds and ends.

The alternator is 2 days old
The crank angle sensor is like a week or two old.
The motor is 250miles old as of today.
Built 7bolt. I didn't build it so dont mock me LOL. I woulda built a 2.4L 6 bolt if ya ask me.

I need to know these things:
What do I adjust to make the throttle go back down to 1%?

How to tighten the ac belt cause it squeels like a mofo at first.

and I think thats all I can think of for now guys. I'm gonna replace that ground wire and terminal asap.
