Alright heres the story... yesterday i was pulling out of my driveway and one of my belts broke and the rest came off. I went and got all my belts yesterday and started replacing them today. In the process i discoverd that what i would guess to call it my (Crank Pully) im sure thats wrong but that has broke... i have a few pictures of it. Could you let me know what the problem is and how much it will be to fix it? Also what is this specific part acutally called. Thanks for the help! WTF

Yup, just be glad it did not shoot into your timing belt (happened to a freind at 7K RPM on the track good bye valves. Mine broke at a light I heard this weird clunk then a squeel and smelt rubber burning. Shut the car off and pushed it to a dennys parking lot for a tow truck. Crawled under there and seen the AC belt was crawling up[ behind the pully and going into the timning belt cover. This part is now part of my timing belt change to prevent anyhting like that again. I was looking at Buschurs 1 piece SFI approved harmonic balancer, its 4 times as much but who knows.

The crank pulley's often advertised are no more than a stamped piece of metal meant for show rather than performance. you need to be careful of the ones you buy. This is a common problem, more so on ford's, but you need to research them before you buy or as previously mentioned, you will be buying a new valve set. I work as a service manager for a facility in Vegas and we see this commonly on older DSM's. Not a bad idea to replace with a dealer part, or invest in the aftermarket. They are not that expensive at your local dealer.

Dealer is around $160. I just bought one this week from DSmotorsports.com for $110. They ship same day if in stock. mark

Same thing happened to me a while back, check my pics. It is actually called the "Harmonic Dampener Pulley". Thats what the dealer calls it. It is about 160-170 from the dealer, actually a few bucks cheaper from Chrysler. I ended up getting one from a junkyard for free, thanks to my father-in-law.

same thing happened to me, i would hear a squeeling in the morning when i started me car, but anytime i brought it about 1500 rpm, it would stop, so i didnt think much of it (this was the winter time might i add, 0 degrees outside, lots of things make noises then, but anyways, i drove on it a day or 2, then finally it pissed me off enough, so i lifted the car up, took a screwdriver and could wobble it around, so i called a guy and he told me that my crankpulley separated and i shouldnt drive the car until i got a new one, $145 shipped from the dealership, came here 2 days later, i am sure this wont be the last time it happens either.

yeah, that's a great feature of the crank shaft pulley.... with some of the stupid things wrong with these cars (crank shaft pulley, lifters, ball joints, transfer case) it's a wonder they werent all recalled and scraped. i still love my dsm though.

yeah mine wobbles like crazy, ordered one from mentor mitsubishi in ohio yesterday...came today for 110 with next day shipping. :thumb:
