I am getting these small chunks scraped off of the back side of my timing belt (near the edge closest to the engine). What could this be? I suspect that something is rubbing the belt, but the belt is not loose. What could this be? I plan on replacing the belt and the tensioner, but I wanted to know if anyone has seen or heard of this.

Try checking the oil pan bolts for the front of the engine at the front case. Those should be shorter. If not they could be cutting into your T-belt.

Yeah thats a crappy problem man. I would defintly diagnose or at least do your best to figure out the problem before u fix it, other wise it might continue u to do this. Trust me a broken timing belt is the the dman worst thing.

wow, sorry to hi-jack your post, but this happened to me,i took the cover off and noticed my brand new timing belt looked like it was scarping something, sure enough it was the oil pan bolts....

Thanks, but my damage is not on the side. It is on the top. The scrapes look about the width of the oil pan bolts. I will check out both the bolts and the trigger plate though thanks.
