I've almost got my fuel system upgrade installed but I'm having problems with the fpr return line. What did you 2g owners do to connect this? I have a -6an push lock fitting & I was just going to use the stock rubber hose and force it over the push lock fitting but it seems to small in diameter, I wasn't able to get it on the fitting. The only other thing I could do would be to take the hose off the car & try to get it on with the fitting in the vice, but I figured if I had to force the hose ths much to get it on, I might be streching it too much & possibly cause it to split. What did everybody else do? Maybe I should get some new hose the same diameter as the stock rubber hose that is more flexable so I can strech it over the fitting? Please help guys.

First of all are you sure your working with the correct line? You're sure you have the return line not the feed line? Second are you using the correct fitting? Are there any other connectors you could use? Knowing what type of FPR you have would help too. My Aeromotive FPR was easy to install and I didn't have any problems with the fittings.

This post said something about the fittings seemed wrong and were hard to install. Sorry I couldn't help you any further. Perhaps you may have to either A. Find a correct size fitting or B. Do what you said and take it off in order to install it.

In my case I used a short length of Earts SS line and worm clamped it to tthe stock metal return line. If you have an extra piece of the Earls rubber hose can do the same thing.

I "tweeked" the metal line 15degrees or so so the bend was not too steep.

BTW.. it's low pressure and the stock line was installed with a spring clip so no worries of it popping off.

If you're hell-bent on using the OEM hose with the pushlock.. heating the line (hot water not flame) will give it a bit more flex ;)

I just did this last night. I didn't use ss line because -6AN seem to be too big for the stock return barb. Instead of trying to force the stock hose onto the fitting, apply some lubricant and twist the hose in slowly. I didn't get a chance last night to test for leaks and turn the car on (It was 12am and I live in a quiet neighborhood) yet but everything looks good so far.

Bruce,

Did you do the mod on your 1G? I did mine (1G) and had no problems utilizing -6 SS AN with a worm gear clamp on the return line. Also in the thread I posted above, this was brought up regarding a 2G. The member on that thread said there was no problem installing it on a 2G either and provided pictures etc. documenting it.

There seems to be some discrepancies in the thoughts on this. I've thought about this and there might be an answer to the differences. >

There are 2 different types of SS AN hose. One being Teflon and the other being the neoprene rubber type liner. It's a possibility that the rubber type liner might fit OK, and the Teflon, being more rigid, might be very snug, thus causing differences in results.

Just a thought,

Tom

I just grabbed some barbed AN fittings and attached it like stock.

Tom, yes I did this in a 1G. The SS line I have seem very loose on the stock barb, it may have worked if I tighten it down with a clamp but I didn't want to take a chance on it. DSM90AWD is using the same line as mine so it should work if it worked for him.

Very possible. It's also recommended that when buying fittings and SS hose to stick to the same brand because they very in size, this may also contribute to the discrepancies.

Here ya go. http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/showthread.php?t=174601

But... no bumping, :nono: and do a search.

Tom

Sorry about the bumping, but the post got lost in the list :D , & I did do a search, read for 45 min or more but couldn't find any real "hard answers" for the 2g, that is.

Thanks for the input everybody, to answer some of the questions asked, it is an aeromotive fpr, yes I'm sure I'm connecting to the return, yes I'm sure that I have a -6an push lock fitting on the outlet of my fpr.

Last night I tried installing the -6 fitting in some new fuel pressure hose that I purchased (same as stock id @ 1/4"). I got it about half way on & it didn't want to go any further. Now when I bought the hose it is rated for up to 175 psi, they also had some hose that was to be used for carburated cars & only rated for 50 psi. I wasn't sure how much pressure was on the return side, so I didn't want to get the hose that was only rated for 50 psi, but I did notice it was more flexable. So what is the approx pressure on the return side?

Now since I used the push lock fittings, they also have different hose from the normal ss hose, it is alot firmer & there is no way you can clamp it down to the factory metal return line (atleast not on a 2g). So it looks like some of you have used the ss line with the push lock fitting & this seemed to work well, this will work for 2g as well? I do remember reading people thinking that the 1g & 2g have different size lines.

Maybe I could try getting the 50 psi rated 1/4" hose & try to get it on the -6an push lock barb, if I do get it to go on, it will be streched quite abit as the -6an seems to be close to a 3/8" id hose, but it looks like some of you are having luck with this.

Now I did hook it up last night but Im not sure if I want to keep it that way. What I did was get a brass 1/4" barbed push lock fitting, a brass 3/8" barbed push lock fitting & a 1/4" npt coupler to join them. I assembeled the fittings and then silver soldered them to make sure they wouldn't come apart or leak. Then I installed the push lock hose to the aluminum -6an fitting on my fpr & the other end to the 3/8" brass barb. Then I installed the 1/4" id rubber hose from the other barb to the factory metal return line. It works without any leaks but I still might change it as I would rather have less spots for a "possible leak"

Very true, I bought a couple of them for my turbo water feedline and they will definitely work except I wasn't going to pay Summit $9 handling fee for one $12 fitting. :)

Luckily I have a few speedshops in town that both carry a large selection of fittings.
