Hey everyone,
well i have been hapily using dsm link now for about 4 months, no problems. Recently, about 3 weeks ago, i went and did some dyno tuning. Everything ran great. As of just recently, i started seeing knock at part throttle or more only under boost. I had the 1g knock sensor in there for a while, since i recently completed my 6 bolt swap. i thought this could be the problem so i switched the 1g knock sensor out this morning in favor of the 2g. same problem, so i put in some new 93 gas... maybe i had a crappy tank i thought. didnt help. Last thing i tried, was setting all my timing and fuel settings to zero, except for global, i left that alone. But i figured this shouldnt matter because its for WOT, open loop mode, right? Well in any case i have no clue as to what is wrong, the knock sensor isnt loose, i checked, so its not random knock. If it helps at all my current setup is as follows:
6 bolt shortblock
wiseco pistons
eagle rods
2g ported head
big 16g
550's
Aeromotive AFPR
whinebro 255hp
greddy big fmic
typical bolt on's (ic piping, full 3" exhaust....da da da)
many other mods that i cant really think of, Hope you guys can help me out, im really at a loss of what is wrong here.
thanks for the space

Well this sounds exactly what I am experiancing on my new 6bolt as well. I have been getting phantom knock at cruise pulling the timming 3.2deg. I did the same thing and just installed a new knock sensor but I have not had a chance to log it yet to see if that changed anything, probably didn't. I think the general consenseous is that it is the lifters making the noise. I pulled all my 2G ones and cleaned them and it didn't make any difference. They say the 3G ones are the way to go, I guess I'm to cheep right now to drop the coin on new liffters not knowing if that is actualy the problem.
I will let you know if I come up with anything.

i had that, but turns out my knock sensor was loose, i tightened it up and it went away, but dont over tighten it either. Only difference is i am experiencing this under boost now

Well I finally got my wierd knocking resolved. It was one of those problems that was difficult to diagnose unless youve had it happen to you before, sort of like arc gapping of wires (which i have... again on brand new wires). Not sure that any of you care, but it turns out that my base timing was off 10 deg! Changed that and the car is a complete new beast, and i have yet to tune my open loop fuel table. The reason I didn't think it could have been that is because I never touched it since my 6 bolt swap. Then all of a sudden one day it decided to knock. I only have a few minor tuning issues left. Like I said my wires are arc gapping again, 2nd set (both were new), and I think my Waste gate vacuum lines are hooked up wrong as it seems to be opening at idle. And lastly i need some sort of hose to connect my bov to the FP 4" cast intake pipe, the stock bov return tube wont reach. Just thought Id share my good fortune with you all.

Is it true that if you over tighten the knock sensor, it becomes over sensitive? I have problems with timming being pulled big time. I checked the knock sensor and it was toast. So i replaced it from one off a cyclone motor. I changed it and it still does the same thing. the thing is that i over tightend it for sure. Probley by a fair bit. would this be the problem?

It could be, youre only supposta tighten it hand tight then 1/8th of a turn. On the plus side I resolved my knocking issues. base timing was off about 10 deg. Who woulda thought.

let me get this clear, your wires were arcing so you got new wires and now your problem is fixed? did the timing get back to normal when you changed the wires? i seem to be having a knock problem also, my mods are:

K&N Air Filter, 2.5"turboback PowerTone Exhaust, TestPipe, Turbo xs rfl bov, mbc@15psi, Upper Intercooler Pipe, Intake pipe, 02 Dump

near redline knock suddenly goes up to like 20 counts. i dont really feel the car cut timing, im pretty sure timing at wot was like 36degrees. my knock sensor was messed up before and i replaced it, any ideas?

oh and a little bit more, my car is a 90 laser fwd, my fuel trims are lo:85 mid 87 and high 108, the trims for the 90's are different than that of the others, any help would be appreciated. i use 93 octane also.

maybe you over tightened your knock sensor, also check your base timing with a strobe gun
