I already have a Greddy EVO exhaust on my eclipse, and I love the way that it sounds right now... pretty quiet with a nice low tone. I want to finish off the exhaust system with a 3" downpipe and high flow cat, but I am not sure how it will sound. Everybody i know of that does anything with the cat on their car ends up with a crappy sounding exhaust that sounds like a chainsaw. So if anybody has the same exhaust as me, and later added on the downpipe and high flow cat let me know if it changed the tone and volume of the exhaust, thanks.

Of course it will change the tone and volume... It will be much ouder and deeper if you get a 3". Our cars, IMO, do not have any crappy sounding exhausts as the turbo just makes them sound better. As long as you get any quality work it will sound fine. Not quiet, but fine...

Hey candela what kind of exaust system do you have on your car. I just got my apexi n-1 catback. And i'm trying to decide on what downpipe to get. I'm either gonna get the apexi downpipe that removes the cat or a downpipe that will allow me to fit a testpipe for easy switching incase i get fined. But it would be a lot cheaper to just get the apexi downpipe then to get another downpipe and a testpipe.

I have a 3" downpipe and and high flow cat connected to my greddy power extreme. the sound ony change when I'm at wot. and no it don't sound like a tin can. it sounded deep and mean.

yep, my 3" setup sounded a bit loud at first, but now, I have no problem with it. Nice for sure. And when opened up, BOY O BOY, that thing howls! Hair stands up on the back of your neck hehe :)

i've noticed different setups where people combine a 2.5" cat and downpipe with a 3" exhaust. What would be the point of this as opposed to just going 3" all the way? From what i understand, you just about can't have too much flow on a FI engine, correct me if i'm wrong.

well, on a turbo engine anyway. With the turbo vanes in the exhaust stream, you don't need anymore back pressure.

Only disadvantages of 3" over 2.5" are cost, noise, and sometimes boost creep, if you have a certain setup.

I was running an APexi dunk catback when I went to RRE 3" DP and HIFLO cat. It made it a little louder and deeper sounding. Performance got me more topend, I still had the t too small. At WOT it sounds mean. Louder of course but only at WOT nothing rice sounding it's great.
