Just bought my new 97 Spyder GS-T, and its in great shape. Unfortunately it sounds like shit due to an exhaust leak. Took it to the local shop (only place who would look at it, even tho I know they are ridiculously overpriced). Basically I was too lazy to find the leak myself - Well after they put it up on the hoist I was told that my "flex pipe" was broken and needed to be replaced. They told me it would be $480 large. Granted I told them I would do it myself. Here's the confusion - First of all by "flexpipe" i'm assuming that they mean the downpipe- Am I correct here? I was planning on purchasing a 2.5" to 3" downpipe, and then purchasing an exhaust from there back. So first am I correctly replacing the "flexpipe" with the downpipe? Will the 2.5" downpipe bolt up directly? Any immediate problems anybody can point out to me? Thanks for the help!

yes the flex is in the dp, check out www.rnrracing.com , for a ss dp 3 inch its $240, bolts right up, my suggestion is go ahead and do a 02 elimnator dp, or a full 3" 02 elim exhaust, other venders offer different options, just pointing them out for their nice, easy to learn layout :thumb:

p.s. go ss if you can

www.kteller.com offers a turbo back exhaust, minus muffler, for $575. in Stainless steel. Many options available like the 02 eliminator mentioned above. Mark

And if you have the choice get one that bolts back up to the block like OEM to take the weight of the exhaust off the manifold

They want to charge you $480 to weld on a new flex length... thats a real riot. ROFL

Will the 2.5 inch downpipe from http://www.rnrracing.com,(This Item Here) bolt right up with a 1997 spyder gs without any losses... My flex pipe is starting to go and i know people do charge crazy money for a new one? Will this bolt right up with no welding need or nothing?

It should. the stock piping is 2 1/4"? correct me if im wrong :(
the flanges on the downpipe will be larger in size, but the holes should all line up.

as a matter of fact, it says it in the description on the link you've provided.

2.5” Downpipes 1g/2g

These mandrel bent downpipes bolt on to your stock o2 housing and connect to your cat. They feature an improved heavy duty Stainless Steel flex section to eliminate stress cracking.

So go ahead and order one. Make sure you specify you own a 2g, gs spyder

Wait will that end up hurting the rest of my exhaust? or even hurting the perfomance of my car altogether?

ha, i just edited my post like 30 times. anyways, performance wise, you wont see much of a difference. your exhaust is still restricted by the rest of the exhaust system. since your car is N/T i dont see why it would hurt the rest of your exhaust.

well I emailed them and they said they only sell downpipes for turbo models so im screwed... I need to find a down pipe for my spyder gs cuz my flex pipe is starting to go! has this ever happened to anyone here? need some suggestions on what to do before the leak gets bigger and sounds like a tractor! help... LOL

Will a aftermarket downpipe for a 4g63 work on a 4g64 or is the 2.0 and the 2.4 gunna make it a problem?

I am new here and just ordered a 6 bolt engine with cyclone intake for my 93 talon TSI which I bought with a broken engine. cylinderhead, turbo and manifolds were al stolen from the car before I bought it.
My question is the following.
Do the jdm engines have the same exhaust cracking problem as the dsm engines?
