I am currently building a stroker motor. I already have my block at the shop and I needed a hundia sonata crank. Went all over looking for one and Advanced auto said they could get me one for $197 bucks.. well turns out they cant so i was out of luck until to my great supprise a 89 sonata was at the local junk yard. So for the next 4 1/2 hours I pulled out that crank using only rachets and box wrenches. The grand total after everything was $42.31 So I not only beat the original price by 150 bucks but got to bash a few nuckles in the process :thumb: but now that i have the crank at home and next to my original they appear to be almost exactly the same. I will try to put some pics up later. Has anyone else come across how similar these look? i know it came out of a 2.4 but it just seems really close.

You better hope they look same. Only difference should be the 6mm extra length from the centerline of a main journal to a centerline of a rod journal. That's nearly a 1/4 inch. Not much visually.

I know that they will look the same mostly (like for all the bearings), I know the only difference is the offset of the journals. I guess that a 1/4inch would make sense. THanks though

Really, a Hundia Sonata crank will work for the stroker crank? I did not know that. This is most fasinating to me now. Are the bearing sizes still the same as the 4g63 crank new, and it just bolts right up? Is there any machineing involved when useing this? Hell, if I can pick a new crank stroker crank up for 200 bucks, I'm game.

I dont know if your yanking my chain man but if your serious. Yeah you can use that crank for a stroker setup. The bearings are the same if you dont have to regrind the crank, I would just by new ones personally.

I'm not yanking your chain. I'm too am in the process of rebuilding my motor, and a looking at all the different stroking setups. The cheapest crank I found was $350 for a remanufactured. So that kinda of turned me off the idea of stroking the motor, but this 89 Sonata crank is looking much nicer in the wallet. I already have the bearings for a standard 2.0 6 bolt crank and your saying that thoes bearings will work with the Sonata crank, as long as it hasn't been reground?

You're getting into information that's redundant and has been reposted many times before:

1. 2.3L stroker cranks.
2. The whole subject of NOT regrinding cranks.

Basically any 6-bolt 4G64 crank will work in a 6-bolt 4G63. Remember to check the pilot bushing end of the crank to ensure your transmission will bolt up.

Search on #2. Lots of information exists, but essentially if your used crank cannot be polished acceptably, it will need to be reground, and since the factory hardening process is not uniformly deep, grinding may cut thru that, blah, blah, blah, search and ye shall find.

half-cocked :thumb: You're right, but I didn't want to confuse the issue with the facts (I love saying that)... someone point him to RRE's website or even Importperformanceparts.net or 4g64.com or...wait... great, giving away information that he should've searched for already...
