I recently purchased a tial 40mm wastegate, and will probablly be running it on a green turbo. but id like to keep my hahn o2 eliminator dp, so i will probablly have the wg hole welded shut. my question is where and how is the best location to mount the tial? what have you all done? Please respond only if you have a 40mm tial. Another option i considered is completely ditching my gorgeous down pipe and getting a VP or Turbotrix o2 housing and some sort of aftermarket down pipe, only thing is i dont like them. My hahn uses 3" piping right from the turbo flange back, no 2.5" crap. Seeing as my downpipe is probablly going to stay in my setup, i probablly wont be mounting it on the o2 housing. Any suggestions on where to mount it, and what location is best. Theoretically the o2 housing location would be ideal but ive pretty much ruled that out. Please let me know what you guys would/did do. All im looking for here are suggestions, no flame wars or vendor wars please. thanks for your time

if you can, try and pilfer the exhaust from a collected point like this.

right of course, but thad be the same, flow wise, as pulling it off the o2 housing. still not decided on the RRE idea, im not sure i like it, but i think that flow wise it shouldnt matter if you mount it on the collector or runner #n. since when the wastegate opens you would still be releasing exhaust gases, since the pressure in the manifold would be high enough. Its sorta like an electrical circuit is how im thinking of it.... current will follow the path of least resistance. In this case it will be out the Wastegate regardless of position or location. theoretically it makes sense to mount it in the collector area, because all cylinders have a better change of discharging into the WG, but i could see both ways. turbonetics manifold draws from #1 runner as well, im assuming they buy into the path of least resistance theory, but who says turbonetics is necessarily right? Let me know what you guys think

i understand your idea of "path of least resistance", but i'm not sure i am totally convinced of it yet. if it was up to me i'd have a wastegate flange made that i could bolt between the manifold and the turbo and release it when it was all already collected. only problem then is the spacing between the front engine mount and the turbo.

but that's just my opinion :thumb:

i agree, and thus would be the purpose of doing it on the o2 housing... but i have a 6 bolt block too so clearance would be.... well who knows! I am able to tig and mig weld, and i was CONSIDERING hacking my hahn o2 housing so that i could mount it there, but im already thinking that itd be more of a pain in the ass than its worth, mostly because of how hahn designed their downpipe, it would be a total hack job to modify it.... thanks hahn, you guys do great work :-/ but thats a separate issue :) MORE IDEAS GUYS, cmon i know ive seen a few of you with 40mm tials on the manifold and turbo, talk to me here!

No, I don't have a 40mm, I have a 46mm. It's ignorant to think nobody without that specific gate will know what they are talking about. Especially since you have the gate and had to ask for help.

If you can TIG weld, I don't see why you shouldn't modify your current dp configuration. it's going to be a tight fit w/ a 2g. But a 40mm should fit in there. I have a 46mm tial on a 3" o2 housing from 122 performance on my 1g. I'm not sure if it would fit on my 2g. I guess I'll find out when I try to move everything over. I know I'll have to lose my AC fan for sure.. I'll have to replace it w/ a pusher.

sorry you thought i was being ignorant, but thats the last thing i am. I dont want to start a flame war, but i know alot of people have 35mm gates which are a different size i believe, so mounting on the manifold may work for a 35 but not a 40. I just wanted opinions of people who knew about this.... let not start pointing fingers here... the last thread like this i started got locked because it turned into a vendor war, i just wanted to keep this on topic. I will have to look into the 122 performance o2 housing, maybe they can send me just the parts and i can weld it up, or leave the lower dp flange off and send me a 3bolt one that i can weld up, cause i really like the idea of an o2 housing mounted WG, makes alot of sense, once again id just like to not have to buy a new down pipe. Ill try giving them a call. thanks for the help so far guys! Keep the good suggestions comming!

You have to run a thinner fan on the drivers side but most guy do for I/C pipe clearance anyway. Works great.

I know everyone speaks of the slimline fans, but i dont know what is a good one to get... i know summit sells them but i was curious to what other people use. I dont want to have to worry about overheating, and i dont want to only have 1 fan. I want just as much cooling as the stock fans if not more.
