Well i was hoping to buy some 272's this winter but i dont think i will be able to now. My friend who is having his 302 in his Mustang built by some guy, said he could grind my cams for $25 each. I was just wondering would anyone recommend this. I have HKS titanium valvesprings/retainers, bronze valve guides, J.A.M stainless valves (standard sized). if grinding the cams would be a good substitute until i can afford bigger ones what things should i tell him as far as how much i want them ground or whatever i dont really know where to start with this. They will be 1g cams in my 2g head.
Also I have a 2g head going on my 6-bolt block, I need the holes where the head studs go in the head drilled and tapped from 11mm to 12mm... about how much will this run me to get done? and i am looking for a slight/mild port job both intake and exhaust side what prices am i looking at for this kind of job? Any and all help will be more than appreciated i really need to get my car ready for the season ahead.

I wouldn't regrind cams. They'll just wear down fast and you'll end up having to buy 272's anyway. I don't know anybody whow would recommend using reground cams.

kool thanks thats what i kinda gathered from some further research on other forums... i will just run stock 1g cams then and buy bigger and better cams later.

**STILL LOOKING FOR INFO ON HEAD WORK**

Web cam used to be regrind stock cams.. lets just say they will not do it anymore. :thumbdown The cam would wear out and damage the head. Not recommended.

Just some input.

so wait this is intereting WEB CAMS used to use stock cams and just regrind them?? i was just looking at them to buy aside from the HKS cams... do they do that anymore?

**ANY PRICES YET ON PORTING?**

Web cams have stop doing it.. Web is a **** Company.. All there products for the 4G63 Suck.. It's not just the cams. It's there springs, retainers, and so on. Every part that they have maded for the 4G63 has had problems.. they're no longer use the Stock cams for regrinds. They now use a better metal grade. I wouldn't touch anything web has done. In my friends car, his valve springs crack after 3K miles.. bent his valves. :thumbdown

Huh... thats very interesting. i will probably go for the 272's in that case. thanks for the help.

** STILL LOOKING FOR HEAD PORTING PRICES... ANYONE?**

70-80 bucks including the dremel...
All you would be looking at doing is taking off casting flash.
Then you get some nice 320/400 grit paper and go over it by hand.

you will get raped by any shop if you want to do more then that.

I took a head to a shop once, and only once to get ported. I explained very throughly what I wanted done. They charged me 150 bucks and took 6 days to remove only the flash (and not even all that well I might add). Something I did later on another head in 30 minutes with a dremel.

I did the rest, and took the head back to them after I had it where I wanted it (literally 2 days/3 hours worth of work later) - and made sure to point out THIS is what I wanted done. He said great job, if you wanted me to do that I would have charged 600+. And no promises that it would have been done in under a month.

Why are people so scared to do their own work?

My god is nothing else get one off Ebay/or a junk yard for 75 bucks and pocket port it yourself... That is another thing I think that ALL "performance" enthusiasts should learn to do... besides build their own engines...

Hehe... I agree on the porting... It's not hard to do and if you do some reading and don't start hacking up the short side radius to much you can do your own porting.. I got a 6 bolt head for $50 which is already port matched. I'm going to do some major hacking on it and see just what I can accomplish. I just wish I had access to a flow bench.

Don't regrind. If you are looking for something affordable and available go with the FPCam2's... they are comp cams FP grind. Nothing but good reviews on them. They are also coming out with 2 more sets of cams designed for drag purposes. I'm guessing the idle on these will totally suck as well as low end torque.
