I've got big plans for big power but I don't have the thousands of dollors to throw down all at once
Like most people probably. I bought a 95 Talon TSi AWD last month that took a dump and killed the engine. The car's future is some big hp numbers and low 1/4 numbers but for now I'm just throwing something together temporary to get it running decently and prepare for the bigger build.
The car's current mod list that either came with it or I've added so far:
Full suspension mods
Full brake mods
Poly engine mounts
Fidenza/2600 ACT/B&M short shifter/ss clutch line/shifter bushings
DSMLink V2 and Greddy 60mm boost
Buscher 3" turbo back
BBK 255L pump and an AFPR but only 450s for now
Probably a stock side mount for now also
Some other stuff that I can't remember.
Here's what I have to throw together an engine for it.
94 Galant short block (DOHC 4g64)
Rebuilt 4G63 head gasket matched for 1G manifold and polished
1G manifold & throttle body
The future holds a To4E 60-1 with lots of other stuff (supporting mods) but I really can't start that for at least 2 more months for my own reasons. I do want this car running for my own reasons also. Although it'd be best to just wait and build up a parts stock pile, I'm going to do it this way.
1st question: What's a safe boost limit on the stock short block w/ turbo head (asuming a good tune)? I'll have a 14b on for this temporary set up. What compression ratio do you end up with with stock 2.4 internals and a 63 head. 9.5:1?
Really the main question is what else can I do to this set up for maximum power (safe power for the stock shortblock that is) that can be re used on the big power build? For example, I'm not going to bother with little things that I'll just have to rebuy/replace later this year for my future build. I don't plan on breaking any records with the current set up or anything but I'd like it to at least be fun to drive.
The only thing I can even think of is a good balance shaft removal kit and a metal head gasket since they're supposably reusable. Concidering I'm not disassembling the short block, I can't think of squat. So throw ideas my way that won't break the bank... if there are any
