When I'm at wide open throttle and around 5000rpms or higher the car backfires a little bit haults abruptly and then boosts back up, almost in an instant. SOmetimes it does this like 3 or 4 times real quick if I keep the throttle down? ANy help would be GREAT!

Check your plugs and wires and replace them if they are over 2 years old. Set the spark plug gap at .028 and make sure the wires are in good shape and are not arking. You also may have a boost leak to look into. Check the ignition first.

As far as the plug wires go...try reading them out. If you didn't know this already...swell. If you did know this...then just ignore me. Being it's a 1g make sure your resistances are no more than 5.8ohms for 1, 8.4 for 2, 10.6 for 3, and 9.7 for 4. Twice I've had similar symptoms (which led me to convincing the wife I needed more mods) only to find out I needed new plug wires. Btw, can anyone explain to me why 1g's have the above readings and 2g's are supposed to read out @ 22kohms for all 4? I'm getting this info from my old ass Chilton's manual, so I don't know how dead on it is.

Good readings for sparkplug wires are around 5.8 ohms of resistance per foot.

you don't really want more than 5.8 per foot, because it would have to much resistance.

so say your 3 and 4 wires are 1.5ft and 1.75ft, so it should be around 8.7 and 10.15

and the first 2 should be really close to 5ohms. :thumb:

yeah thats not fuel cut........might be a boost leak...happened to me.....LOL......

trust me fuel cut in any engine but a rx7 would feel like your whole front end fell out of the car......trust me!
