Hey guys,

Well my gf's Bro's cars motor is shot.. i've just decided to swap it. All i can find is JDM motors off ebay so i figured i might as well do a JDM Swap. from my research i've found that when swapping a USDM 4g63t to a JDM 4g63t there is no connection for the oil pressure gauge. What are other common problems with JDM swaps and how can i get around them. I dont work on DSMs and have been trying to do as much research as i can. The engine i've been interested in is http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=7953099967&category=33615

I plan on using the wiring harness and ECU from the USDM motor. What problems will be caused by that. Also i had read a post that swapping motors with the same ECU causes speed problems.. how true is this. Any information would be great. Also, i might wanna rebuild the JDM engine while i've got it so that i can garauntee a longer life for it. Where can i get a rebuild kit for this engine or will a USDM rebuild kit work just as fine. I'm really not going for speed on this one, i just wanna get his car back on the road and have a little kick to it. I'm open to any suggestions and if anyone knows a place i can get a USDM engine from or places to get parts for this swap. Please help me out here.. i'm in the dark when it comes to DSMs and am trying to make this swap as painless as possible. Thank you very much.

PS i know i posted this question in the newbies forum but no one seems to reply there and i figured this is a better place for the question seeing it is more technical.

I have a 2g with a 1g JDM engine/tranny swap. I know where you can buy a good head and block. www.slowboyracing.com. Secondly, I haven't had any speed issues with my swap. I also haven't had any problems with using the exhisting harness/ECU.

If you buy from SBR, you don't need the engine core. You can buy straight from them and it already rebuilt. Another thing I like from them is you can still get the engine/head in the stock form.

I'm not looking for a racing engine though.. just an engine period.. hes not a speed freak like me he just wants to get his car on the road..

i put a jdm in the galant 3 years ago. took us 2 weeks, mostly because we had to do it outside, in december, and it rained. when i got the motor, it was so clean, i thought i was new. looking in the oil filler cap, it looked brand new. only after pulling the exh manifold could i then tell it had been run. one exh stud was already broke. this motor has performed flawlessly. i would do it again in a heartbeat. one thing, mine came out of an automatic, and i think the automatics are not beat on like the rs motors. also, if you get the automatic, there is a spacer in the rear of the crank that is a challenge to remove.
