i just got a 92 talon tsi5spd with about 160,xxx. i pulled out of my drivway and my friend pulled out behind me with his 90 integra ls with intake,header,exhaust. my car was supposably runnin 11 psi ona 14b acording to my autometer boost gauge and dash boost gauge. he kept up with me quite easily. my car suppose to be that slow or what. could the pistons be like covered in carbon or ?. and tips.
 
seems alittle slow, my talon when i first got it on stock boost it would beat mildly moded integra gsr's. Now i have some questions for you hows your driving, and is it 5sp or auto?
 
humm i haven't raced an ls teg in a long time but what i do know is that even when i was just apexi exhaust i ran 13psi steady plus i know that my gsx is alot slower like when i do a punch or from a roll trying to loose some of my friends they keep up i guess (3 or 4 cars behind) but on the launch its like 8 so...maybe your engine is wearing down but i think its just you feeling slow thats my opion though
 
im actually a good driver. idk guess my talon is just slow. any siggestions that will tell me if my talon has some bad interanls?smokes a lil.
 
well first of all 160k is alotta miles on an engine. second a stock 1g dsm runs 11psi and runs a mid 15 sec quarter. i would go thru and check for boost leaks and possibly throw in a new set of plugs and possibly some wires. check your air filter and try again. remember his car is ALOT lighter then yours and from a roll he might have enough power to taKe you. goodluck
 
thinkin about just puttin a 16g and boost controller and 3 in exhaust. runnin like 15 or 16 psi. u guys think that could take a ls teg?
 
If you upgrade to an evo big 16 g you will totally destroy his car unless he buys a big turbo for his and even then he would need drag radials to have the slightest chance off the line.

But your 14b is capable of a lot better performance.Search thru the forums.Open up you intake and get a better air filter first.You can safely up the boost to around 15 right away but should rewire your fuel pump or get a bigger one they are pretty easy to chance.Depending on which one you get though you might need to buy a adjustable fuel pressure regulator so you don't overun the stock regulator.Then you need some way to tune and scan the car.Dsm scanmaster works great and then a maft or safc.Lot of guys run the gm mafs and ditch the stock setup.Once you have fuel handled and tuning is good you should be able to get maybe even 17 ,18 out of the stock turbWTF!!f course this all assume your engine is still sound enough.A basic compression followed by a leakdown would be a good thing before you start modding.You might need to rebuild first.
My car has 130,000 miles and so do many others and they can be fine.Depends on a lot of things.A nice exhuast is good too but if you go too big and take out the cat you will likely start getting crazy boost creep and hitting fuel cut or hurting things.Keeping the cat in helps quite a bit I hear.

As said if your engine is sound then your upgrade path is whatever you want to do.A nice evo big 16 or even 50 trim ,good pump,bigger injectors,afpr,bigger exhaust good tuning and you will be amazingly fast and as I said no non turbo or non nitroused honda will give you any cause for worry.Out of all the power adders the turbos are the most powerful potentially and most nitrous guys don't run that big a shot on the imports normally.

But some cars are very light and that makes a big difference too.Still without awd they are at a serious disadvantage on street tires.Our awd destroys most cars not on drag tires.

Oh also of course do the basic tune up to your car..new plug wires,plugs,fuel filter.I got low 14s out of my pretty hurting 14b and near 100mph.13s would have come easily if got a new clutch.
 
dude you are so funny,do you know what DSM stands for.......Damn faSt Mashine..... :laugh: , you wanna compare vtec and turbo... :mad: have you ever tought about why vtec cars have to put turbo to reach even 14' sec ...... :laugh: you should sell your car 'cause, you dont deserve it.... :thumbdown You are not aware what potentional :shhh: power you can produce with not spending too much money ....so i wouldnt ask that kinds of questions anymore, cause you could make someone mad, most DSM guys would never trade their car for way more expencive silly cars outside......
 
that 14b will rape an LS teg, that is if everything is running right. i.e. no boost leaks, optimum compression, some good gas, base timing checking in around 5 degrees. I would check those if you havn't already.

Should. But with that many miles, it has been driven. That talon probably has low compression, probably boost leaks. The 14b turbo (if it is the original) probably has some shaft play, and is close to dust.

You need to do a basic tune up first (plugs, wires, air filter, T-belt, hoses, maybe clean your TB, change vacuum lines, fuel filter, do a compression test and a boost leak test also. If you get low compression on your test, then a motor rebuild will be your first best mod. Make sure that your car is at its peak before you start to mod it.
