I have heard of people removing this gasket all together. Has anyone here done it with any success? Or should I expect leaks?? It is the large square metal gasket inbetween the exhaust manifold collector and the top of the turbo.

Thanks

I would not recommend it, if you develop a leak there, it would effect your car's performance big time.

if you had both surfaces machined flat, and used good lock washers you could get away with it, but it's easier and just as effeective to keep the gasket.

Keep the gasket, it's cheaper and you wont have to beat it with a sledge hammer when it's time to take it off.

I don't rcoment this either, that little gasket takes alot of vibration, It is also a prime place for an exhaust leak. and if you didn't have it, then all that vibration will be on cast surfaces, and thay can wear. The gasket's only 6 bucks at the dealer. I have several, b/c I replace it every time I switch a turbo, or take mine off to do something to it. or around it.
