Next weekend is the big day. Ill be intsalling a Big16G in my '97 TSi. So far I have intercooler piping (FMIC soon) boost control, and a full 3" exhaust with 3" downpipe and no cat, of course a datalogger.

Now my overall goal is a 350whp daily driver that will occasionly see the track(at least a few runs, gotta know what you can run, just in case :shhh:

I know that right away I'll need to keep the boost down before any fuel mods, but everything I read points in different directions as far as parts needed. I am understanding that the four main fuel mods would be injectors, an AFPR, an AFC, and a pump. I'm just looking for some other recommendations of combinations and/or sizes on the above mentioned to get me to my goal.

i am bored so i will reply to this tread, but i'm almost positive there are threads already on this topic

u r gonna need 550's with a new fuel pump or rewire. i have a 255 walbro just for the sake of not ever getting a new one in the future. it may be drastic but i would bite the bullet and get a S-afc 1 or S-afc 2. you will thank me later. also keep in mind you will probably need a pocketlogger for tuning unless you have access to a dyno that is fairly inexpensive. good luck and have fun with the Big 16G. i remember when i had one and they are fun as hell. lots of low end torque. :thumb:

oh and i just looked at your post again and you don't really need a FPR. i don't have one at all so... :talon:

I have a b16g...

your plans for the future, in terms of your turbo, alters the "most optimum and cost effective" options for fuel mods.

I am personally planning on keeping my b16g, so I'm running a walbro 190, and will have my MAFT 2.01 in this weekend. I have ran the MAFT before on my car and loved it. With a logger and a few runs its easy to tune and once its set does not need to be re-adjusted. I was hitting full boost @ 3k rpms at 10psi (no creep, check my mods), the spoolup factor plus the blow thru option that come with the MAFT make it an awesome and VERY EASY TO INSTALL AND TUNE upgrade. I plan on going with 550's by late spring.

If you aren't going to be keeping the b16g, or want to run very high boost levels, I would recommend the 255 w/ fpr, 650's or bigger, and dsmlink.

Going with a 190 eliminates the need for a fpr.

You could go with a 190, 550/650's, and dsmlink and be rolling towards that goal of 350 pretty quick.

I would personnally stray away from the safc, pay a few hundred more and get dsmlink if you really need that much fine tuning, which you most likely will if you want to make 350whp on a b16g.

Good luck!

I ran an EVO III with 550's, stock pump and the MAFT. At 18-20 PSI the 550's were about maxed. A pump and an AFPR with the pressure raised would help that and make the 550's OK and easier to tune as not that much of a "lie" to tell the ECU!! 660's are a great fits all injector. You an use them on the 16G or on a 50 trim as I am doing or an 18-20G if you should choose. I would also go with the Walbro 255 for having that extra for the day. www.fullthrottlespeed.com sells a nice BOLT ON AFPR for around $145. and they make the MAFT. Mark

So running a 190 pump will not be an overkill for the injectors making a FPR necessary? I do want to make sure its enough though. Is there a way to determine how much boost it could handle if tuned properly with an AFC or DSMLink?

im going with a 255 walbro and 650cc injectors because i plan on runnin 20 psi... on my b16g which will be exteranlly gated

the only thing i thing is wrong with ur setup and going to a 16g is you might have creep problems.... thats why i am going to exteranlly gate mine... i hate creeping then hittin fuel cut...

I can answer the amount of boost, fuel wise, with my wideband a/f meter. I don't know what your logger or AFC can/will do. I was able to run a 10:1 a/f with the stock pump and 550's at 20 psi but was running the injectors at near 100% capacity and I do not like going over 80% for the injectors sake. Not for extended runs anyways.
The nice thing about an Adjustable FPR is the additional tuning it allows. The ECU sees "X" amount of air and will supply spark advance for what it sees. Say it is at WOT but I don't let it see that much air. It will then give more timing assuming there is no knock. If I can adjust my fuel pressure I can raise it and supply extra fuel to PREVENT knock with that timing.
Many conditions can affect what I just typed and if I am not correct someone please make the correction. It was a simple example.
Knowing the car's A/F and EGT are great tuning aids that will let you know a safe level of boost, fuel wise. They will not prevent a blown headgasket but may help!
I added the Walbro 255 and the fullthrottle AFPR this winter as my car is hibernating due to snow, salt and cinders as I live in central, N.Y. but I am sure anxious to have them when I start to tune for the addition also of a Spearco FMIC! Mark
