Ok Im new to The DSM thing but im good with cars. I have a 93 awd talon with a 6 bolt and 1G head. When i purchased the car it had a broken timing belt. Not a big deal to fix. just send the head out to a machine shope and im good to go .... so I thought...LOL..

One of the cam bearings are/is scored really bad. If It was like a american V8 I would just align bore it and add a new set of larger bearings. So now that Im dealing with this set up what can I do to fix this. If I align bore it then the cam will not fit and will fail shortly after. Is the head garbage or can the machine shop and metal to it then aling bore it again?

I really hate to trash this head as it has been ported and flows very well not to mention that a similar new head would cost me 1500.00 +

Any ideas or thoughts gladly accepted,

Thanks,

Ken

I have a 1g head that has(I Believe) 4 bent valves, T-belt broke at idle. The head is pretty much complete with the exception of valve cover and and the messed up valves. Has complete valvetrain in it. If you need it, it's just collecting dust, And the head has not been touched, not even resurfaced, Make me a offer

Yeah the 272 cam is shot. I have a lot of money in the head as far as porting it. I guess I will have to call bjs cylinderheads and order a new one. that will take me some time to get that kinda money up. well, I guess I can find some other things to work on until then.

Thanks for the input, I wish there would have been replaceable cam bearing in the head... so much for wishing...Wishing.. :(

later,

Ken

Thanks for the help and info

Did you read my post? They can be align honed you just need to degree the cams. Send it to BJ first and have him look at it.

Aluminum is soft, you should be able to clean up the cam journals with an emery cloth unless they are severly damaged.

Post a picture. honestly though unless the journal is so bad thatit dosen't even touch the cam when assembled you can clean it up and run it. What is it gonna hurt, an allready junk head. Hell my bike that i put 4000 miles on this summer has a galled journal in the head, I ride it every where. a messed up journal isn't the end of the world.

Thanks for the info. I took the head down to the local machine shop today and they said that it is easy to fix. They just shave the caps and then bore it and im good to go. Thanks for the quick answers.. I love forums...

Thanks again guys,

Kenneth
