my question is i want to make a "creep indicator light" that will let me know if i go over ....say 17 psi..whatever, the plan was to wire up an LED that will light up (obviously to get attention) to let me know when creep starts happening, does anyone have any idea on maybe a pressure solenoid or ...i dont really know the name of it the general idea would be just like the ones of water injection kits right?

the reason i asked.... i NEVER get boost creeep but i was doing a blast showing my friend how a boost guage works.... an for some reason, maybe my MBC froze up, it pinned the guage at 20+ psi and i didnt even know it, hence the idea of an indicator light to alert me when that type of stuff happends

btw... thanks 15psi88

if u want a cure for boost creep...or want to know when it is happening to u...jus buy a peak and hold greddy gauge....the look pimp...and they work...i myself have the p/h egt and boost and i love it...there excellent...ud never relize how far u went past ur desired point of boost until u tap the button...and ur like oh $$$hit...LOL..... :dsm:

the type of switch you would need is a "hobbs switch" not sure off hand where to get them but thats what you would need... works just the opposite of a circuit breaker... the switch will remain in open loop until a desired boost level is reached and this will close the loop if current thus powering whatever it is wired to be it a LED indicator or a nitrous silonoid or whatever...I do like the idea of the over boost light... much cheaper than a peak hold guage... Good Luck... and let me know if you do this , I'd like to know how you like it :thumb:

yea but ur not screwing with solenoids or any other crap....that gauge will tell u exactly what is going on jus hook up like a normal boost gauge and a couple wires and ur set....no one said that going fast was going to be cheap....spend the extra money to be extra safe...am i right or wrong here... :dsm:

Running a boost switch to accomplish this is pretty simple. Take the switch and set it to the trigger point (the psi you want the light to come on). Then take a 12VDC Led and mount somewhere in your dash. Take the power end of the LED and hook to your ignition or any 12V source.

Next, take the boost switch and mount it. Its less than 1 ounce so zip ties work very nice. Connect the common port of the switch to a ground. connect the Normally Open port to the other end of your LED.

When you hit that boost the LED will come on.

The other thing that is cool about the switch, you can have it turn a device OFF when you reach a specific boost.

In otherwords the switch has both normally open and normally closed ports.

thanks.

I dunno, if the gauge wasn't enough to "alert" you, well.... I dunno.
Yes, a Hobbs pressure switch can be set up to trigger a warning light, but you'll probably want it to trip a timer so that it doesn't just flash and go out.
Or, don't take your street car so close to its "edge".

what defiant said....if ur looking to run ..."no so safe boost levels" then maybe u should think of buying another car...everyone knows how are cars are...u need many special things to moniter everything that goes on in our cars...especially boost....if u go to high u could have some serious problems....i mean when ur sister... whos 15 years old keeps on saying ur cars a piece of crap and it always breaks...but u have jus as much horse power as a viper (420-450 area) u learn not to listen anymore.... :dsm:

did you guys miss the part where i never get boost creep it just spiked one night, i usually dont look at the boost guage EVERY time get on it, (kinda like to focus on the road) so this little flash of light will let me know if my cars acting up BTW i have the boost set at 14 psi and it spiked up to 20+ dont know why but i would like to know right away next time if it does happen, hence why i want to make this indicator light

cbell- i can understand your view point on this.

when i drive I usually just keep the boost gauge in the corner of my eye. besides, once you see that red needle get above a perfect upright sweep.. there's a problem OMG plus the fact that I know my car boost creeps.

good luck and post results!

haha, so much for the good demonstration huh? jk -jam :dsm:

Im with ya dawg!! It'd be just like a "dummy light" on yer dash. Just meant to catch yer attn. if something might be going wrong. (ie - Low Oil Pressure light)
