I own a 90 GSX and since last night I also own a 91 Talon tsi. The talon ran and purred nicely but I decided to pull the ecu and check the caps out anyway because it was sitting for a while before I bought it. To my surprise, the 3 caps were in perfect condition, they may have even been replaced because they look very clean compared to my bad ecu I pulled from my 1990. However about an inch or so from the caps there is a row of black wafers standing upright stamped with M5269L and 0118 right under that. The fifth wafer counting inwards exploded. It leaked some fluid but nothing that can't be cleaned. Here are my questions:

1- What are those wafers? are they also caps?
2- Can i swap on of the good ones from my 1990 ecu into the 1991 talon ecu? They both have the same part number but under the part number on the talon is says 0118 and on the ones from the eclipse say 9915. What do those numbers mean, are they interchangeable.
3- What kind of places repair boards like our ecu's? Where can I take it to get it fixed?

i think your referring to the resistor network ic's, replacement of those would be best left to a professional since there are quite a few pins on each chip.....you prob could swap out good ones for bad ones but removing the good ones from the other board will probably ruin them from the heat, unless you have the right tools.......yes there is a person on this site that can repair your ecu, i'm not sure of the persons contact info right now maybe someone else can chime in on this, in the meantime if i can find it i will post it for you.....you can also try doing a "search" using the search feature on this site try typing in "ecu repair" or something similar......... :dsm:

If I'm counting right that would be IC105. These are low saturation voltage driver IC's. Both IC105 and IC107 are for driving the stepper motor in the ISC. These drivers work by pulling the wire they are connected to to ground (actually very close to 0v) to activate it. Thay can only handle so much current (2A max for several milliseconds). Normally the thing they drive has some internal resistance that limits the current to a safe level but then the ISC coil for example shorts internally the next time the drive is switched on it trys to pull battery voltage to ground through 0 ohms causing them to blow up (infinite current). The also fail if the wires in the harness short together connecting one of the drive wires with one of the power wires. The last way I've seen them fail is when the capacitor C106 leaks and shorts the ISC circuit trace that runs under it to the 12v circuit it's connected to. You may not be able to see the electrolyte leakage if the waxy coating on the ECU has formed a seal between the capacitor and the board containing the leakage under the capacitor.

The number your refering to is the date code. The first ones were made in the 18 week of 2001 (on a 91 ECU?) and the other in the 15 week of 1999(on a '90?) Perhaps these are replacement ECU's
