ok, i've only had this car maybe 3 weeks and this shizz happened. yesterday i let a friend drive my car for maybe 2 min. and now the biotch doesn't run  . i've had no problems with it because i haven't dawged it out. well, i heard a slight ticking today but really didn't pay too much attention to it. well, the ticking got louder and, with the help of a friend, figured out it was a piston knocking...well, i drove back really slow and tried not to put the car under too much boost because it felt like it was being choaked whenever the boost kicked in. long story short, when i got back to my parking lot, the car just died on me. however, whenever the car wasn't in gear everything was fine...but once in gear and under acceleration, the ticking became hella worst and it sounded like metal on metal....what could that possibly be? i'm going to recheck my fluids to make sure i'm not bone dry on oil which i hope isn't the problem....but how much would it normally run to get this fixed and what's the worst case scenario?  :(

I would say worst case is a bearing went on you. IF that did happen then you will have to rebuild the whole engine. :thumbdown
It seems like your pretty inexperianced so i guees you not going to do it yourself so it will cost a good chunk of chain at a shop.

But first things first, I would drain the oil and look for any metal shavings, and maybe drop the oil pan to look for damage, also do a compression test. See this to find out how:
http://www.dsmgrrrl.com/FAQs/compression.htm

If your compression is good and you have no metal in the oil, you might be o.k.

Also check for boost leaks:

http://www.vfaq.com/mods/ICtester.html

do those tests and let us know what you find out.

Can't tell you how much without knowing the problem exactly...but with anything, there is the expensive route (doing it right with new parts) and the cheap route (used parts, do it yourself)...

These motors can be tempermental...make sure you check all the basics first...fluids, electrical connections, vacuum lines, etc...

yes i am inexperienced when it comes to dsms...this is the first turboed car i've owned which is the reason why i don't/didnt/won't dawg it until i've done "strengthening" mods to it...that way i can tie up any loose ends....i'm a nissan owner and have yet to have any issues with that car other than oil leaks with 125k plus on the engine. only diff is my 'san is n/a...but i've got a couple of peeps coming to take a look at it over the next couple of days....in order for me to drop the oil pan i'd have to get it towed and i don't want to remove the front bumper just to get it on a flat bed....i won't drive it because of increasing any now existing damage....the friend who drove it said i had a boost leak and that i should upgrade to a stiffer clutch...keep in mind i've had no issues with the car....oh, i failed to mention my friends a mechanic and lives to tune cars....he's already on his 3rd car cause the others weren't satisfying his "need for more power" hunger.....but i'll look into these things and get back.... :thumb: thanks

nailed the problem to a broke piston....had a friend look at the engine while i cranked it and he said it was definately a broke piston because it was only working off 3...a friend of mine from the dealership is coming on sunday to check my compression and if that's the case SHE....yes she....is going to probably have it towed back to their dealership and fixed!! that's only if lady luck is in a good mood!! until then....any upgraded piston ideas?

Working off of 3? You mean pistons? Go back behind the car and smell the exhaust. If it smells like alot of unburned gas, most likely you burnt a valve.

If your piston is cracked, your car has either

A. Been beaten to shit by previous owner.

B. Your timing is off, causing your valves to dig into your pistons.

or

C. Doesn't have a broken piston, the problem lies within your valvetrain.

Prob not B, most likely A or C.

Easiest way to check for a dead piston is to take out the spark plugs and find a flashlight. Won't give you much but its better than nothin.

Unles you are seeing LOTS of white/smoke come out of your exhaust or are burning oil like mad, it's not your piston.

well, i can say there's no white smoke and that's for sure :thumbdown .....that car was probably beaten up by the previous owner, but it barely has over 85k on it and isn't really modded highly (upgraded injectors, fuel rail, BOV, DP w/CB exhaust) to be dawged but i know where you're going with it.....the timing could've been off cause the car cranked fine but the knocking was louder than shizz...probably cause the hood was open, but it was never that loud before....so if the problem is within the valvetrain, what could it possibly be and how much less/more would this cost in repairs?

btw...the fluids were fine...added more oil (2qts) and everything else was top shape...so it really wasn't the obvious stuff this time.... :D
