Death of the (mighty?) 4G63
My 91 Tsi w/t 31,000km's on it, immaculately maintained, is done for a few years. On my way to school yesterday the nut backed off the oil pump sprocket and made a hell of a mess of stuff... Went through the cover and everything. Too bad this had to happen, it ran so strong. Getting very discouraged with the DSM's It'll sit around for a few years until i'm done school Now I hafta drive a ford focus :thumbdown

So sorry for your loss. I have heard others having this problem also. I used lock tite red on mine when I did my rebuild. These types of things happen when you least expect it. Hey now you have an excuse to put 5k in the motor like all of us  Are we sick or what

Or pick up a good shortblock for $300 and have it running with a floor jack, some hand tools, a few buddies and some beers by the weekend

Haha!
Solid rear axle... no thanx! hehe... That IS the ultimate sleeper, however... Mostly for the drag-strip I would suppose... Could only imagine what all the weight in the front end and the solid rear axle would do to it's handling!

I feel your pain man...the 4g63 is a great motor, minus the fact that the life of it rides on a strip of rubber...
has anybody thought about addressing this issue? Replace the timing belt setup with a gear driven setup? Just a thought...

My REAL car is a DSM
Sorry dnhieu, you misunderstood me... I was saying that my DSM is undriveable for the next while (could be a few years) and I am forced to drive a Ford Focus in the meantime. It's being lent to me so if you had to choose between the bus and a Focus i can almost guarantee you'd drive the focus... I know it sux, but a DSM is too expensive for my poor student ass right now... MNGSX brought up the focus V8 swap... i would NEVER do this. I'd spend the money on my poor DSM!
And don't worry PSITSI, Northern Ontario isnt' losing this DSM, its got 31,000km on it, so it's not going anywhere! She'll be back... Oh yes, she'll be back.
I need a "my other car is a DSM" bumpersticker right about now!

Yeah, leave him alone. Usually elitist blow-hards can at least spell.
BTW, I don't know any DSMers that are able to leave their car alone for more than a few months. My car has been in storage for only a couple months, and I can't wait to modify/drive it.
Good luck.
( I first thought this thread was about how the EVO 10 will probably use a new Mitsu 1.8 GDI turbo engine. Although thats still a rumor - and a different thread all together. )

Apparently you lack the ability to stay on topic !its okay my english teacher says that this is a fixable problem. you were talking about a 5k v8 swap in a ford focus would own me? so i was telling you that 5k in my dsm would wax some focus v8 swaps ass reguardless.
