I have a GReddy front mount on my eclipse, here in New Jersey its been 7 Degrees at night lately. This is where a front mount is REALY APPRICIATED RIGHT?!! Well my question is if 7 degree air is going into my intercooler what degree air is going out the other end tank? All you guys know its ice cold to touch, but how cold do you think it changed to?

You dont have 7* air going into your IC. You have much hotter air because it has to run through the turbo first. Intercoolers gets more effecient when the air going into the intake is cooler because it results in cooler air into the intercooler (less cooling needed), and then cooler/denser air entering the engine.

This is why our cars run better when its cool outside. Cooler denser air burns up more completely in the engine.

The only way to tell what your intake temps are is to log them. They will vary with each car. I have seen intake temps around 80* on a cool night and a fmic on my car, just fyi.

Check out www.Stealth316.com/2-turbotemp.htm

It's an easy temp calculator. In this case if you have a Big 16G running 16 psi with 80 degree intake temps at the air filter, and assume your average FMIC is about 75% efficient, with 7 degree outside temps the air temp at the throttle body would be around 72 degrees.
If you had 7 degree intake temps from a cold air intake and no other changes, your temp at the TB drops to...?

Nice web site that pretty interesting stuff, I dont know where you found that. "Stoner" i completely understand what your talking about. IF I could get the ambient temperature into my intake under the hood, that would be nice right. Maybe some sort of custom intake should be made. But if ambient temps are around 7 degrees, what do u think if you were to guess would be the temp under my hood? just curious

This is the best mod you can do to lower your intake temps

That article looks OK, not the cleanest install, but the idea is good. I did something like it, except my blockoff plate is in two parts; upper and lower. The upper part is attached to the hood so when I close the hood it overlaps the lower part and seals off the filter. That way I can remove the filter and intake without removing the blockoff plate.

BTW, any logger will show intake temps at the air filter, so it's super easy to see if any home made intakes are working or not. If you don't have some sort of blockoff plate your filter is sucking in hot air that just came through the radiator.
