hey all - just skip down to questions if you don't want to read.
i've had a few questions on my mind about my car. first of all, i want to end up with an EVO3 16G all nice 'n' tuned on my car. i think that will satisfy my need for power, esp with FWD.

Current mods:
dave brode uicp w/ 1G bov
mbc, boost gauge
K&N FIPK
2.5" catback
fresh bpr6es with ngk wires
cable for laptop logging in mail

current plan of next (power) mods:
open up my exhaust with 2.5" dp and an atmospheric 02 dump
fuel pump with rewire (...and fpr)
bigger injectors
air/fuel controller - SAFC

Questions:
1. when i get a dp/o2 dump, will it fit both my T25 and the EVO3 16G? or will i have to wait and get that with the evo?

2. fuel pump - is a walbro 190L suffcient to push the evo? or should i just grab the 255? what difference does the high pressure make? should i get the HP?

3. injectors - 550's sufficient?

4. will i be able to use the stock manifold with the evo3?

5. can anyone think of any other supporting mods i need? i want to do everything right.

6. with the evo3 i should probly notch up to the bpr7es, right?

thanks a lot everyone

p.s. looking for recommendations on dp/02 dump. i was thinking rnr but i've heard some bad things. is the 02 dump by punishmentracing.com for the 2G? doesn't specifically say..

1) Yes, your downpipe/o2 dump should bolt right up to both turbos.

2) If you go with a 255 you will want an adjustable fuel pressure regulator. A 190 can be run fine on the stock fpr, although if a much bigger turbo is in your future you should go 255 from the start.

3) 550s will be good to maybe 350 hp on race gas. If you want to make more in the long run, go 660s or bigger (are you running an SAFC or DSMlink to tune?). I bought Evo8 560s for $130, so check the EvolutionM.net classifieds.

4) A ported stock manifold should suffice--make sure to port it well and you won't regret the time spent!

5) You will need something to tune with if you are going to run bigger injectors! An aftermarket downpipe would be nice (I have one for sale if you want to pm me), an upgraded smic or a fmic would help you get the most out of the turbo, and at some point down the road cams will add another 25 hp or so ;)

6) See how the car runs on the current setup, I had to get them when I put mine on because she would hesitate under boost with my old plugs.

Good luck with the setup--are you positive you're going EvoIII? If you're buying new you may want to investigate the T04 turbos from Bullseye Performance.

thanks a lot for the info

sorry, i said air/fuel but i didn't mention that i am going to buy SAFC (for now, i'm sure i won't be able to keep myself from buying dsmlink :) )

for my questions about the injectors and fuel pump, i basically intend on hopefully running a pretty powerful setup for an evo 3. i'm not going to try to ring every last HP out of the engine, but i want to get my money's worth :)
basically i want to know if i will max out 550's and a 190 before i max out the EVO 3? (on pump gas)

i don't have anything to port with other than my dremel.. could i run a stock manifold and then buy an evo3 mani?

i will check out those other turbo's also, thanks again

and i'll pm you for info on that dp ;)

Easy setup for an EVOIII 16G power plant:

-3" downpipe
-190lph fuel pump (re-wire if want)
-550cc injectors
-SAFC
-Ported mani. & o2 housing

- You said you didn't have the materials to port the manifold yourself so you'de rather buy an evo3 mani later...Well, trust me, if that's the case, it is cheaper to just get someone professionally port it for less than $100.

- an evo3 16G is a great street turbo by all means, but most people get upset later that they would rather have bought a bigger one...That is why I think you should look into the t04b v-trim for the same price...Just get the one from bullseye power.com that comes with the installation kit...You can still run 550's with that

-If you are second guessing safc, trust me, DSMLINk is much better for tuning and great for tuning any setup if you ever decide to change

Well, 550s will not max out an EvoIII 16g on pump gas. You will need 660s to do it. A 190 lph pump should be able to do it, though.

You would be able to use your stock 2g mani without porting, but you won't get the most out of the turbo until you have it ported. I currently run an unported 2g mani with my ported and clipped EvoIII 16g, and the performance difference from the T25 is scary :p

I'm sure you'll be pleased--look into getting some Evo8 injectors, like I said before! They're 560cc and usually come off of low mileage Evo8s. I'm running 17 psi on these injectors on the stock pump, and once I get my 190 lph in I plan to run 20 psi on pump gas, 23 on race gas.

really? huh, i would have thought you would have problems by then with the stock pump. guess i havn't checked that out as much as i should have, just sort of assumed you needed a new pump for that much psi on a bigger turbo

thanks for all the help guys

and i've been checking that turbo out...

wow does that look promising
i havn't even looked into that at all... what would be different between an evo 3 and this turbo in terms of installation? looks like i don't need the $200 install kit (heh). what is meant by "Oil feed and drain modifications required"? is that new oil/water lines like part of the evo install kit? looks like i wouldn't need a J pipe..
which "turbine housing inlet" would i want? mits, right? that internal wastegate is pretty damaging to the wallet, 'eh? LOL

i dunno, i was pretty set on the evo3, but you guys seem to have made me unsure :p

i still think the evo3 will be plenty of power for FWD though

P.S.
i think i'm probably going to end up taking my chances with RNR's service. their 02/cat elim with dump looks promising.. i just hope it only takes a couple weeks to get here...
let me know if anyone has any other suggestions on a similiar dp

hey, here's a question.. when do you get decent boost with that turbo? they have a graph that makes it look like ~4.5k.. where as the EVO3 is like 1k lower than that which i like a lot..
thanks again

If you're set on the EvoIII, then go with it! It's a very popular and successful street turbo...Trust me the TO4b is also a great turbo but if you already had the evoIII planned out and you know all about the install for it and understand it, then get it, go ahead... :thumb:

-The TO4b is a cheap, powerful turbo but it isn't cheaper than the EVO3 and I hope I didn't imply it...It is the same price as the 16G but that is without any wastegate...If you want it internally gated then you add another 150 or so and if you want it ex. gated then that could be another 300+...So, even though IMO I would choose the V-trim over it, it is more expensive and your decision should not be based on my opinion ;)

-BTW: RNR downpipe is a good choice but as much as you want to believe it will only take a few weeks, trust me, it won't!! It takes most people 2 months + with no customer service :barf:

I would get the t04b v-trim, If I were you. I was already in your situation. I wasted my money and got a small 16g then a big16g, Then finally the v-trim. Do it once. It will come out to almost the same price if you need the install kit for your evo 16g.

where does the v-trim really start to pick up (RPM)? is my previous guess of ~4.5k about right? or no?
my understanding is that a evo3 picks up around 3.6, and the lower the better for me as i drive around town all the time and what-not

i am very interested in this turbo though, so keep the info flowing :) and they really are about the same price new. perhaps it will come down to whether or not something is available used when i am ready for it.

awesome

i think my choice of turbo has been swayed

thank you very much you guys :) :thumb: :thumb:
