Hey,

Based on your experiences, which of the following 2G FMIC kits provides the best performance. Price isnt really an issue...I just want to do it right the first time, rather than have to replace it later.

JR FMIC
GReddy (24R) Big FMIC
Slowboy Racing FMIC

Thanks,
Eric

P.S.
If you use or know of another intercooler kit you like more, feel free to comment on those too.

Well, if price isn't an issue, why go with those? Why not, AMS or a SPEARCO or Mach V... or something else...

I have an sbr on my 1g, even though its not a 2g I love the kit other then the size of the core its HUGE!! Major fitment issues. But whats great about there kits is that they are complete with a throttle body elbow and every thing. But If price is not an issue then AMS is the best bet. Ive been there an seen there kit and it is the one of the best ive seen. They are great with customer service. I say go with AMS all the way. I will be geting a 2g in the near future and I will get that FMIC. As far as the greddy goes my friend has one and his bumper is like bearly held on by anything. Also the fins are not strong. Its your choice but with all the experiance that I have dealing with AMS they are a great company.

They are all good, but do not go Greddy as everyone else has stated. I like my JR intercooler setup. :thumb:

hmmm...Well:

-The greddy's are good if you spent a lot of money on your SMIC-TB pipes and you don't want to have to replace them...but, most people take the more effecient and smarter route and get an intercooler that includes short route piping...JR's used to be the cheapest, but that is only if you build your own piping and when the core's costed less than $250...

-Is $$$ really not an option??? If so, the AGP kit looks pretty good if you want to drop 1K on an I/C :thumb:

ive had 2 intercoolers on my eclipse, both greddy, one the 18r, the other the 24v, i like em both but would never go with anythign other then the 24v, it fits perfect, the piping is made so its a simple installation instead of having to have custom piping made, i dont know about the other 2 intercoolers , they may be better but the greddy is perfect in my eyes. Otherwise that OBX intercooler looks like a pretty good buy for the $ (not that you mentioned OBX)

Have you looked at Hahn Racecraft? I have their 2g intercooler. The efficiency ratings/size/piping/etc are all posted on their website and are all good numbers. The install was very easy compared to other intercoolers. It looks sweet (as most do). Their turbo's are not well respected but their intercooler puts up good numbers. I am not a big fan of the Greddy's, they have neck-downs and do not have smooth bends.

Just throwing Hahn in the mix. :thumb:

Is there anything inherently wrong with the GReddy other then the length of the pipes? IS that the only reason people don't like them, or is there actually something worng with the core? Its gotten down to a relative bargin these days at ~850. And because of innovations like the sts turbo, I'm not so sure a few more inches/feet of IC piping is that big a deal.

the reason why people dont like the greedy core because its as strong as a pepsi can.
i use a spearco core, but if i was buying again id buy the agp

The SBR is $879, I would pay the extra 30 bucks. Plus that includes piping from the turbo to trottle body unlike the geddy which only includes piping to the stock sidemount location. So add the price of a UICP and the greddy is costing you more than the SBR. The Greddy core is not a complete piece of crap or anything, its just there are so many better ones for close to the same price.

Yeah, I already have a GReddy UICP, so that's not that big a deal. My candidates were SBR, Hahn, and GReddy. But not necessarily in that order. The SBR looks to be like overkill for my needs and the Hahn lets you keep the foglights, but I think is a lot more expensive.

Well, it seems that SBR and AGP are the 2 most popular FMIC's. Between the two, just for kicks, which would you rather have:

Slowboy Racing FMIC
or
AGP FMIC

Thanks,
Eric

P.S.
If you were to get the SBR, would you buy it polished?

That Would be JR's Kit :thumb:

Well sort of, he does indeed manufacture the kits for me, but if you call and ask him, I personally re-designed the kit to fit both automatic transmissions and manual transmissions :thumb:

I have the dejon tool racing FMIC. Its short routed piping and the core is bar and plate. The price is very close to the SBR kit. These are 2 pictures from other members that show you how it looks. Note the polishing on the end tanks is optional as mine did not come polished but if u have 97-99 gst/gsx u wont see the endtanks anyway. Performance wise, i felt a big difference, the car accelerates alot more linearly and only a 1/4 of the core gets hot after back to back pulls on the 14b. It also comes with the bracket to relocate the coolant overflow to the sidemount. It replaces the throttle body elbow as well.
