I rebuilt the top and bottom end of my car 550 miles ago. After driving the 550 miles the compression was only 130-140 in two cylinders. I tore it back down and found that some of my valves were in bad shape. Now im rebuilding the head and putting another set of new rings in. The block was justed honed 550 miles ago and the crosshatching is still visable.Should i rehone it again? Do you think the rings will seat with the old hone? Is there anything I can do to help the rings seat? Any help would be appreciated, Thanks

I think re-ringing the motor is a complete waste of money and time. If your valves were the problem replace them. But if you think you need to re-ring the motor, you wont need to re-hone it probly after only 500mi.

I was lead to believe that you wouldnt get goos compression readings till the rings seated.

yes but after 500 miles the rings should be pretty well seated. My compression was dropping instead of rising. Does anyone know about any cylinder wall lubricants that help the rings seat? thanks
