I have a 91 TSI with a stock 4g63 motor and one of the pistons has blown piston rings.
I was wondering , since i am going to rebuild the motor, should I replace the crankshaft.

Have the crank checked out at a machine shop...if its still in spec just have it polished and you'll be fine.

Thanks, I just dont want anything to tear up on me . I wanted to install JE piston but my buddy said that i would have to take the motor to a machine shop so that they can make adjustments on the rods so that the pistons would fit. I was like why dont i get a new crankshaft, new rods that will fit the pistons. I dunno. What should i do?

just get your crank checked out first,no use in buying something that you dont need.and your buddy probably means putting 2g pistons on the rods.je's will fit them fine.2g pistons require machine work on the rods to fit.je makes 1g pistons that press right on.l8r.

Hello, well I had the same question long time ago, well just make sure that the crank does not have any wear ( just the normal) and if it does not well don turn the crank because they come nitrated, if turn the crank u will remove that layer ant the crank will be useless it wont last u much, and for the rods, just buy the rod and crank bearings on the dealer or standard size from slow boy racing or diamond star motor sport, hope it helps.
