o.k i have heard that 1g heads flow better because they have bigger ports? is this a good swop to do on my 2g? i plan on getting better valves and valve springs either way. but is real question is the 1g head better then the 2g?

stock for stock a 1g will flow better ... built up either one should do you fine.

In stock form, 1g heads flow better, so do 1g intake manifolds and 1g TB. If you go the route of getting a 1g head get a 1g intake manifold and TB. Buying only the head will not maximize airflow.

I don't know from experience but I've heard that the 1G head is better all around, both stock and built. All it takes is basically a wiring harness and a few other things to put a 6 bolt head on a 7 bolt block.

This used to be true until major builders started palying with the 7 bolt head. You will find now that most serious cars will be using the 7 bolt head. The problem with the 6 bolt head is the port sizes on the intake are way to big causing a harsh angle at the valve. The 7 bolt head has the ports up much higher creating higher velocity and a straighter angle into the combustion chamber around the valve.

Bigger is not better and does not flow more, don't kid yourselves. A fully ported 7 bolt head will yield more power than a 6 bolt head simply because of valve angle. Watch shortly and you will see many major builders and racers switching to 7 bolt heads because of this.

With this being said, switching to a 6 bolt head and intake manifold from a stock 7 bolt head and intake manifold will yeild more power due to the crappy design of the 7 bolt intake manifold, smaller throttle body and lower lift cams. Not because the intake ports are larger.

I always suspected this, but never had any experience or technical expertise to back it up. I just figured it to be simply because people have been working with 1G heads longer and that they were simply sticking with what they were used too. Extreme's head starts with a 2G, and it is what they use on their 1g Talon:

Thank you DSMJim for this info. I was toying with the idea of going to a full 1G headswap because the 2G head requires too much porting to make it work with a 1G manifold. But now I will wait for next year to get my 2G head ported .....with maybe a SMIM to go with it. :thumb:

so building a 2g will be alot better in the long run? thanx for the helpful info i really appreciate it.

So could you be just as good off as a stock 1g head if you swapped 1g cams, 1g tb, and ported the intake to 60mm?

No not really because the 1g intake manifold flows better as well. The whole 1G setups is better however... If your using a sheet metal intake manifold like a Magnus unit, a 1G throttle body and some aftermarket cams, HKS or Comp then your better off with a 2G head cause you can better utilize the straighter enterance to the valves.

Without the full package a complete 1G will still make more power even with the low angled entry to the combustion chamber because the intake manifold, cams and throttlebody make up for it.
