Would it be worth it for me to port the EVO III manifold or just leave it alone? The turbo that will be used on this manifold is a FPBIG28... Just to port the lip around the collector area, is that worth the port job? I feel that the collector area is big enough, bigger than the stock 2g... Correct me if I'm wrong...

Thanks guys..

yah really?? u guys think i should port it?? hmm... i was thinking of leaving it alone.. alone itself is much larger than my 2g manifold... from what i've read on some threads.. the more I port it, the more likelyhood it will crack or so.. but they say that the evo III manifold is made out of different material than the 2g manifold... what u guys think??

I'd say port it just a little in order to smooth out the exhaust flow and minimize turbulence.

I got mine at Bschur and it's like Doug says here. more of a clean up throughout the runners to just smooth them out and then a blend in the collector area at the exit. DID NOT lose strength. Also Tym Switzer said that the evo was not with size much greater than the 2G but just a bit better from end to end and was his preference. Mark

Bringing this back from the dead instead of making a new thread. I have an EVOIII exhaust manifold to bolt up to my T-25. (No, I am not upgrading at this time, so please do not suggest it) I am new to porting, and wanting to know if I should port that lip off that is on the collector side? And inside, should I port the divider at all? I plan on porting the T-25 to 7cm to match the manifold as well.

Just port out the other lip, leave the divider alone

The reason I ask about the lip is due to not being able to use that ring if I do that. I do not know if using that ring will help in not blowing out the 7cm gasket, or if it is useless and actually worth it to port the lip off.

I'd say go ahead and port it, because we all know you'll be upgrading the turbo at some point in time, and when you do, you'll have it done already. Yes, not using the sealing ring makes the gasket more susceptible to being burned out, but it's not that big a deal to get to if it does happen, and it won't be all that frequent as long as your surfaces are clean and flat. Just use a multilayer gasket as the solid ones can be tough to seal. I'd also suggest using a 7cm^2 gaasket so that it matches the manifold outlet, so that there's no gasket material actually hanging out in the exhaust gas flow.

And ditto on leaving the divider alone.

Here's the caveat for now: You may not see that big a gain by porting out the lip, seeing that you are going into such a small turbine housing, regardless of your intended port matching, but the manifold definitely is an improvement over a stock 2g. That being said, you may not be able to use the sealing ring anyway, since the T25 hotside is not set up for one, or anywhere close to the same diameter as the 7cm^2 opening. The Evo316g turbine housing has a matching lip for the ring to rest on, and trying to port out the T25 housing to make a lip might make it too weak.
