Is an upgraded fuel pump really necessary for the 14b?

the most boost i plan on running with the car is 14psi. the car is definitely a little aged. she has 146k miles on her. would i run lean with no fuel pump upgrade? would it be a safe thing to do with a daily driver?
 
I ran about 16 psi on pump gas and 24psi on race gas on a stock pump. Actually ran 12.8 at 106 like that. But I wouldnt recomend it. Just get a 190 so you dont have to worry about anything.
 
ok. i have the money for the fuel pump, but i just didn't want to spend it on a fp if it wasn't necessary. i think i'll definitely upgrade it.
 
14psi? Why so little stock is 10-11. I ran 15psi on a stock pump. But the 4th mod u should do when u get a dsm is a fuel pump. K&N drop in, cat back, boost controller and a fp. Iv seen cars run high 13's with those mods alone some faster.
 
i think i've seen the video of that exact run! he got like a 1.78 060ft and then right at the end the announcer says it's a 12.8 something quarter. is it a black and grey one? i think the name of the video is humls brothers talon. wow. my car will be that fast? that thing tore a$$ down the quarter.
 
You can buy a pump out of a 3si VR4 that is should be good for 12's. They seem to go for ~$80.

If you plan on modding your car to go faster then there is no reason not to get a Walboro255/Supra pump and an AFPR, even early in the modding. If your car is stock and you are running stock pressure you will get no more fuel than you would with a stock pump/AFPR. Then later it will probably be all you ever need. It's not that expensive, just do it and then you won't ever have to worry about it again.

If you have a 1G then you probably don't even need the AFPR right away.
 
well, i've heard people say that putting an upgraded fuel pump on a car that has stock injectors won't change performance. However, I put a walbro 255lph on my stock dsm( dumped, k&n, free mods) and my car was considerably slower. the walbro pumps at least twice as much pressure and i still think it will hinder performance until one gets bigger injectors and an afc.
 
im seeing all these people sayin they kno someone or they have ran 12's on stock fuel pumps on 24 psi i ran 22 pounds and i was getting fuel cut all over the place until i got my after market fuel pump, is there some sort of secret that i have missed?
 
Most people get rid of fuel cut early on. In my case I used a TMO chip so I could still run 12s on stock pump and injectors. IMO, stock injectors will run 12s all day, but I wouldt rely on the pump as much. I went to a 190 so I didnt have the FP overrun you are getting with the 255. Get a AFPR for it and you wont have any more troube than the stock setup offers.
 
Ok i'm going to throw in my opinion here, i would go and get the bigger pump as detination is really bad for engines, especially turbo engines. You don't want to be flying down the track and have the engine start pinging and then BANG! there's a hole in your piston.

I have a 255LPH walbro pump in my car and i feel a hell of alot better with that pump over my stock pump in there.
