Hey guys, just purchased what I thought was a great price on a new downpipe from Logic Performance...they sell stuff on Trader all the time, although I'm not sure if their website is fully functional yet.

I paid $115 shipped for this downpipe--mine is 2.5" mandrel bent aluminized steel. The flex section looks kinda funky, but I think it will do the job. Anyone have doubts about the flex's functionality? It's an accordion like thing that bends around, kind of like the metal stem of a podium microphone (not sure where that comparison came from :/).

Seems like a great cheap solution for you guys who want an exhaust, but don't have a welder. They sell catbacks too, but I'm unsure of the price.

>>EDIT: Oh yeah, whether or not you like the DP, the service from LP was great, and it got here 2 days after I ordered it. Very good business IMO.

OMG Send it back ASAP! You've been had!
Someone has sold you a downpipe w/
two soup cans lightly welded together.

Haha, yea I was a little disconcerted at first. I was like "wtf is this...where is the flex section?"

But in reality, the flex section is the most expensive part of an exhaust (I think DevilSperm said he paid $60 for his on his custom exhaust). Hell, as long as it will work alright, I don't mind the soup cans :p

Really...? Are you saying that the typical flex section has the "soup can" part inside of the braided exterior? Or are you merely comparing the two in terms of durability and function...

As long as that flexes you should be fine. The only function of the flex section is to stop vibrations from the motor from shaking up the whole exhaust. Looks to me like it'll do the job fine.

Yeah, it is definitely flexible enough to rotate around probably an inch in all directions. It should certainly be able to flex enough not to break the welds on the DP or hangers.

Several DSM vendors used to use those flex sections in the old days, before they knew better… But they quikly discovered that it was worth paying $50 for a real flex section. Looks like we have gone ALL the way around…

This is what is called a “flexible exhaust pipe”, you buy it for $30 for 6 foot section at JC Witless. It works OK, for a while, but then, it does not like to be attached to a solid pipe. So that is when it starts to leak.

I do not think that you were ripped off, you got what you payed for: a cheap DP for a cheap price.

I stand corrected.
