cheapest high flowing intake tract

I'm going to be building an entire intake tract, from the filter to the TB. I'm going to be doing all the work, welding or using the coupleings to connect the pipes. I need some suggestions/information on what materials, and how I should make it.
application is with a t04b v-trim, with all supporting mods. however since i'm still planning, how i control the fuel is still up in the air. End hp goal is about 350 hp.
First, i've heard people using 3 inch piping.. but that seems huge, why would you ever need this large when the exhaust is only 3 inches, and thats after ithe air is expanded? what material and what diameter would best to flow "enough" air?

I will be adding a FMIC and doing all the piping for that also. My next question is what to do for the airflow sensor. The 3" GM MAF seems like the best option, however the price of the translator seems to eliminate it. other than the 2g MAS, are the any other options?

Any thing i need to keep in mind when doing this from scratch? From what i've seen, it looks like the sensor is the only real problem.

Does anybody have any threads where they talk about this? I've done a bunch of searches and have come up empty so far.
 
Well unless you use PVC from a hardware store you need to spend some cash. The inlet should be the size of the turbo's inlet size. Your IC piping willhave to be taken ito consideration as the inletand upper IC pipes usually cross each other. My AGP RS49 has a 3" inlet. I found a HONDA inlet pipe which is polished aluminum for around $68. I cut abou 6" from one end and got a perfect fit which places the filter where the stock sidemount was so the turbo will be compressing air that I hope to be 50* or more cooler than underhood air temps. If anyone sends me an email I can send a pic. The MAFT is a great tuning aid for only $200. plus a pipe that you could fab. You are buying a good turbo so keep the rest up to par. You will need fuel and a way to control/tune it as you already stated. I think you should start with some of the supporting mods for the turbo or you could make an intake for the stock turbo for the "experience". Mark
 
just use good quality exhaust piping, a couple U bends and silicone couplers and start mockin up what you want done, cut everything down to the lengths ya need, weld a bead on the end of each tube, paint the piping your desired color and put it in. oh yeah, and put on your blow off valve flange.

Why would a mandrel bent steel pipe not work? welded together, or using rubber radiator lines. I understand the piping will be a pain in the ass. But I'm patient.

I'm doing everything at once, because its not a daily driver. its just a progect car.
What do most cone filters need to "attach" to a pipe? Thats what I really haven't figured out. what you need to connect just a regular pipe to an airflow sensor, and the filter.

I just can't justify spending money on something that is as simple as a pipe. i might lose a little bit of airflow with it not being completely smooth inside, but i can handle a 2 hp loss with spending 200$ less.

other than the BOV flange, what else do i need to add/tap in the pipes
