turbo advice for non DSM

i was looking into it, and i think i dont want to go with anything smaller then a 60-1

dsmotorsports has the turbonetics t3/t4 60-1, found in that link i posted, and has a choice of .63 and .82 trim turbines, would the lag be much worse with the 82 trim?

otherwise, i think AGPturbo's t3/to4s 60-1 is the best deal. 360 thrust, and a choice of 5 different turbines. not bad
 
i think 60-1 is too big for a 2.0l motor IMO. I would save up for an fp green. I'm gonna run agp's rs 52, its a 60 trim, it falls inbetween the 50 and 60-1 as far as spool and power. It tested like 450hp at 25psi.
 
Ok, first thing is Why are you looking at DSM bolt on turbos?? DSM people pay extra money for a "bolt on" option. If you are gonna build your manifold around your turbo, go with a Garrett and a manifold with a Garrett flange. The Green is a proven performer, but it's extremely expensive for use in a not "bolt on" DSM application. If you drive on the street, don't want to use your nitrous at every stoplight, a 50 trim will give you enough power to keep you occupied for a while. If, as you say, spoolup is not a concern, then you can make some crazy power on a 60-1/62-1 with a .63 or .86 A/R exhaust. Learn to read a compressor map. Don't buy a DSM bolt on turbo unless you get a great price (doubtful) and check out ebay and other places than DSM vendors. 3 of my friends have gotten perfectly good "rebuilt" turbos (1 T3 super 60, 1 50trim/.63, and one T4) on ebay i believe for under $400. They work fine, are real Garretts (don't know if you know the difference between Turbonetics, PTE, Garrett, etc.) These are all non DSM's (2 cavaliers, 1 turbocoupe) and they all have garrett flanged manifolds. If they want a slightly different turbo it's a matter of a minor change with the turbo, you flange your manifold for a Green and you are stuck with MHI based turbos. Just my 2 cents, but learn to read a compressor map and impress your friends with all your mathmatical wizardry :thumb:
 
yes, finding a turbo that isnt catering to the DSM crowd usually is cheaper, however, way i see it, is you get what you pay for. theres a lot of risk involved in getting ebay turbos, or something from a private transaction, because theres a lot of scams out there, lots of people trying to sell bad turbos. buying from a good DSM vendor, i am ensured it isnt a knock off or of low quality. besides, the prices are VERY reasonable. finding a similar flowing turbo from PTE or turbonetics is actually more expensive from other sites, thats why i like the DSM vendor sites.

and just because a turbo has a t3 footprint, doesnt make it a "designed for dsm use"
t3 is just a popular footprint, and the only thing that helps you guys out is usually the install kits or the neccesary adaptors to run stock oil/coolant

eitherway, thanks for your input, if you know of a good place i could obtain a 60-1 or similar, for cheaper, please let me know
