Hey guys I was hoping you guys could shead some more light on this. I have read several articles and am still not sure where the ideal place would be for an aftermarket oil pressure sensor/tap.

Those of you that are using aftermarket oil pressure gauges, what part of the engine (head, front case or whatever) did you tap into and why?

Please post pics if you have them. Thanks in advance for your help.

i mounted my oil pressure sender in my oil filter housing simply b/c thats where the factory gauge reads from and thats where the oil feed comes from, i was just following the factories lead. Just remove one of the allen plugs and replace with the sender. some manufacturers suggest mounting them remotely if excessive vibration is present. Probably not necessary on a street motor but keep in mind that it may fail prematurely if you do alot of hard driving. sorry car is stored far away from school for the winter so no pics.

can you put an autometer oil pressure sender unit in the place of the factory one?
Its the electrical gauge

Only if the ECU does not utilize that signal. Ideally, I would like to leave my stock one sender unit in place.

YES jsut remove your stock sending unit and install the autometer in its place. it will feel like it wont' wwant to screw in, that's because the threadds are slightly different. use some teflon tape on it and just make sure you screw it in straight. the brass threads on the new sending unit will deform enough to screw into the iron housing without stripping.

Wow man it's a small world, I was just about to make a post like this becuase all the other threads about oil press. gauge installs were kinda hazy. Thanks! :thumb:

I recently installed a electric autometer in my car.. I guess the stock one had gummed up pretty bad becase it would not show oil pressure till it was warmed up a little bit.. The autometer as soon as it starts jump to almost 100 psi at idle.. ans anything above 2,000 rpms is over 100 psi!!!!!!!!! When the motor is fully warmed up idle is 25 psi and cruis 2,500-3,000 is about 85-90 high rpm is still over 100...

So now I know why my car seeps oil is a few places!!! Damn the pressure.. I need to do the mods to open the regulator a lil bit apparently..

I mounted the stock sender on the head where the allen plug is on the front upp left corner.. That way I can somewhat see that the oil is reaching the far reaches of the motor.. I also soldered wire that was wrapped around the stock unit so I don't have to rely on that BS plug that was on it from the factory

P.S. DO NOT try to hook the stock signal wire & the gauge signal to the autometer sender.. it doesnt work... the stock gauge maxes out and the autometer doesn;t move.

Good posts

We are on the same page, only I'm considering reversing the solution you've applied. I was thinking of using the aftermarket sender unit on the head.

Obviously the stock gauge isn't great, but why not utilize it? At the very least it will let you know you have pressure.
