every 2 weeks my pcv valve goes out. i can hear it making a loud ticking noise which the knock sensor picks up and results in part throttle phantom knock of 43. this is really starting to piss me off, as i now have a stock pile of pcv valves. if anybody knows how to get rid of this problem, i.e. modification or a certain one to buy, let me know. i have bought out most of the pcv valves in every store in a 10 mile radius. thank you.

i bought three PCVs, two from AZ, and the other from O-reilly... all gave me HUGE boost leaks.... pick up one from the dealer...

Do what I do Cap and vent. Cap off the fitting on your intake manifold and attach a hose to the pcv valve and vent it to the atmosphere. I have never had a problem doing this.

So would you say the PCV valve is only there for emissions reasons and not reliability reasons also?

Its an emissions thing, just like everything else thats not on my car its gone. Sean

i agree, i never had any probmels with the PCV to atmosphere on my 91. all that stuff is there for emmisions, and it can all be removed. PCV, charcoal canister, EGR, can all be bypassed or removed. all of it has been removed from my 91, and iv never had any problems relating to it.

or just remove it alltogether, like on RRE's site

After dealing with the same problem numerous times I'd also recommend that everyone run the PCV to a catch can. I've bought three PCV valves from Mitsubishi and within a month or two of driving they no longer seal under boost. This causes my valve cover gasket to leak a bit of oil, tries to push out the dipstick, and pushes a lot of oily crap through the breather.

check your compression, youll most likely have a blowby issue...

All within 160-150. It's the PCV valve every time, confirmed by a boost leak test run at 20 psi.

thanks to all that have replied.

i already had the intake manifold hole plugged, and the pcv valve re-routed to the atmosphere. i think i will try and remove it all together today.
i know i don't have blowby issues, i have 170 compression in every cylinder.
i will let you guys know of my results. thanks!!!

What I meant to say is a leak down tes...your motor may hve good compression, but that could all be due to carbon deposites. Besides I was originally replying to the thread starter, I in no way disbelieved you :thumb:
