i'm wondering how well the 18g turbo works with the gst, there just does'nt seem to be alot of answers about the 18g out there, and since they are about the same price as a evoIII now, and flow almost the same as a 20g i'm considering going the 18g route.....anybody want to comment???......... :dsm:

I canot tell you much other than my friend had a greddy 18g.. it was a decent turbo quick spool.. he made a few 6.80 passes with it...

But overall I think the money would be better spent just going with something like a bolt on 50 trim

i had my bro's evoIII 16g on my car for a while and liked it. it reached full boost by about 4k rpms and pulls good (better than my plain jane big 16g) ... i'm sure it would pull harder if i had all the supporting mods but i don't :shhh:

Your friend ran mid 10's with an 18g?????

sorry my brain is tired.. I even though 7.80 to myself I guess it just didn;t get to the fingers.. he ran a couple of 7.80

I have the Greddy 18G turbo upgrade kit.
EVO exhaust manifold = ported.
Ported stock 02.
3" turbo back.
The 18G was ported too.

I am really happy with it.
A lot of friends tried to talk me out of the kit, because it is way over priced.
I wouldn't change things though now, honestly.
The turbo pulls hard.
I'm only running about 14 pounds of boost right now and the car feels like it's going to take off.

full boost at 4k? on a 16g? my 50 trim spools faster than that/ my old big16g spooled somewhere around 3k..

I just finished installing an 18G yesterday. Would be up and running if I hadn't created a leak in the main water pipe somehow-- I'm now working on fixing that before I can start her up. It's replacing a Big16G so I'll see if there's much difference.

The guy I got this 18G from, VRMAN on here, can probably give you some info on how he liked it.

I used to have an 18g on my car, I liked it quite a bit but it is a little over priced for what you get. I liked the idea of a more midrange turbo vs. a 20g which is more top end, and a 16g which seems more low end. I definitely felt a nice increase in power with the 18g, and unported in Denver (altitude affects spool as well as power) it had alright spool, and hit pretty well power wise. I have since moved on to an FPGreen but the 18g was a very nice small city/highway turbo

mine is spooling 20psi by 2900 to 3000 rpm in 3rd gear, must be the lousy pacesetter header :p

held 25psi? (My VDO gauge only reads up to 25) to 7500rpm on race gas. It was last day of year at track crowded as hell and only one pass in 4 hours. Would have been a decent run (13.39 :thumbdown - 2.18sec 60' ) if I didnt fuel cut in 3rd and had enough injector (only 550s, they dont seem to flow enough to stay negative enough on SAFC to avoid fuel cut at 24+psi anyway, they handle 19-20 psi fine on pump w/out fuel cut). I probably would have run quicker at 20-22 psi w/ low knock and enough fuel. This is my 1st turbo upgrade but Ive got a decent handle on things w/ knock/timing/02 trims etc, car pulls hard as shit now :) 660s going in next then its done

Well my first impression of the 18G is good. I didn't expect to notice much of a power increase with this turbo over my old Big16G, since it's still trying to push air through the postage stamp stock SMIC, and so far I haven't. What I did notice was that spoolup is practically the same as my B16G, although power delivery seems to hit a little more smoothly. I did one WOT pull on the highway this morning, and was completely knock-free at 15PSI-- I did have some knock problems with the B16G which I attributed to a combination of stock SMIC and the known somewhat low efficiency of the Big16G turbo itself. The 18G, especially with the TD06 comp housing I have, is supposedly quite a bit more efficient, which helps keep charge air temps down. I give it a thumbs up! :thumb:

I was also thinking of going 18g. Where r u planning on buying yours?...i was looking at the ones on forced performance because there like 650$. Just wondering because i dunno much about forced performance and wanted to know if i its a good place or not....

Sorry to start asking questions in ur thread Bishilvr but i have searched and cant find my answers and thought id just make this the 18g thread and not have to start another thread on 18gs. A question i have is the 18g on forced performance says something about a dry bearing housing so i dont have to use the water lines....is this true?...what do i do with the stock lines then? here is the link forced performance 18g

no prob bro', this is everyones forum not just mine or anyone elses....but yeah my plan was to go to forced performance since they have a good price on them now, thats the only reason i was even considering an 18g, otherwise i would'nt be able to pay that much...and it seems like everyones opinion on here is due to the fact that its always been an expensive turbo and not many people could afford it before.....but i can tell you that forced performance is the premiere turbo supplier, so you wont have any problems with them or their customer service at all............ :dsm:

Just run a hose from the water feed to the water return. I personally like the water and oil cooled turbos though-- I bet you could get one "wet" if you asked them.
yeah, wet is usually like $75 more or so...............

Everyone's main complaint about the 18G is the price compared to similar turbos. But if you throw that arguement out and just rely on data from people WHO HAVE ACTUALLY RUN THIS TURBO, you'll get a better idea of it. I had an 18G and consider it to be the ideal street turbo for people looking for stock-like spool but better pull across the powerband. I hit 18psi by 3500-3600rpms and pulled hard to 6600. The driveability is perfectly fine and it spools instantly at partial throttle making it great for everyday driving as well as races.

I would recommend the turbo to anyone looking at 16Gs to give you that slight bit more power that 600cfms provide over the 550 from the 16G. If Forced Performance is offering one at $6XX then the only reason not to get one has now gone out the window. I am sure the turbo is good for high 11s properly supported on AWD. Excellent mid-range turbo choice :thumb:

thanks, this is how all posts should be.....just what i was looking for, and yeah i realized peoples opinions of the 18g were mostly because of price, its funny how whatever somoene is sporting is the absolute "BEST" and eveything else is junk, especially if the person can't afford the "other" turbo, or bodykit or whatever......but yeah, i love that since fp put the 18g on sale all of the sudden its the greatest turbo ever........ :dsm:

sorry to bring up a semi opld thread but what is need to fit the greddy tdo5h-18g on a 2g or pacesetter manifold. the only reason i ask is that i got the turbo for 200 from a friend of mine who had the greddy kit on his SI civic and i've been reading on differents site that the greddy kit for the eclipse uses an adapter to retain the stock manifold right now i only have the stock 2g manifold but the pacesetter is on its way can you guys give me any insight on what i need to do to fit the 18g on my car
