I already have a built block in my car but i have a feeling it wont last threw next yrs race season so i wanted to put together a spare block. I am about to pick up a bare 6 bolt block so i wanted to know can i go with the 2g piston/1g rod combo and not have the block machined ?

I know i couldnt get away with this with forged pistons but with 2g pistons i was kinda curious .
 
You dont have to machine the block. As long as they are standard 2g pistons and your bore is standard in your spare block and not bored .20 over etc... Then they fit perfectly, you just need to get the rods machined to accept 2g pistons, the info on that is on www.vfaq.com, it cost me $150 to get mine balanced and machined.. worked well. good luck. :thumb:
 
my motor is at the machine shop right now. My block has never been bored, and doesnt need to be to accept the 2G pistons that im putting in. The machine shop strongly reccomeded that they at least hone it, and clean it up a bit.
 
Not to sound like a jackass but when you are building any motor you should always bore it when you are replacing the rings and pistons, when ever you want it to last long. The only reason you shouldnt is when you are just trying to save money (ie: you dont have any) or you are trying to sell the car. If you just hone it you could run into the possibilities of having irregular cylinder wall surface and that can cause poor compression and loss of power. But whatever floats your boat :thumb:

Agreed.
Get .020 over 2g pistons and have your block bored to accept them. You can get these from Mitsu.
 
That is true. You should always start with a fresh bore, I however like slowAWDTSi said, didnt have any money, 20,000 miles later no complaints :thumb: . It would be far better to bore the block .20 over and get the .20 over 2g pistons from mitsu, you would have a fresh bore and a little more displacement, that is the right way to do it. good luck
 
if the bores are in good condition, and still within proper spec after a good hone, i see no problem in NOT boring.
