hi, i searched for awhile and i couldn't find the answer. just wondering if anyone knew offhand what the compressor outlet size was on the evo3 16g.
thanks a ton for the help,
Leland

The same size as the 14B compressor outlet. The EVO 3 16G uses the same TD05H compressor cover.

Although they have the same casting numbers, they are different, and are NOT interchangable. -I learned this the hard way when I wanted to port the cold side of my Big 16G (this was my first turbo swap on my DSM, and I didn't think of it until I already had it on my car)... No prob, I thought that I'll grab a cold side from a 14B in the wrecking yard, port/polish it up and swap it with the one on the car that came with the B16G.
Turns out that I ended up with a beutiful paperweight, as the inner diameter of the 14B's TDO5 housing wouldn't clear the compressor wheel of my B16G.
WHY?
-Different compressor wheels, and thus different inner diameters in a TDO5H housing that came off of a 14B vs a TDO5H housing that came off of a B16G.

-I don't know if the same is true with the small 16Gs though.

I hope this saves you some time (and sandpaper, carbide bits, dremel sanding wheels, ect,ect...) if you were planning to do this. -I took some pics of them side by side... email me if you'd like to check them out (the difference is obvious to the naked eye, despite the crappy pics from my old retired digicam). Unfortunately, I didn't take any measurements of the two :thumbdown

He didn't say inner diameter did he? Of course the inner diameter of the compressor outlet for a B16G is a little bit bigger than a 14B's. It's a bigger wheel. As for making use of that paperweight, why didn't you just port the inner diameter? That's what people do to fit a 20G wheel in a TD05H compressor housing. ;)

-If I had the Proper tools to port the inner diameter, don't you think that I would have? -I thought that owning a dsm means that you port EVERYTHING you can :) when you replace it with something BIGGER. :thumb:
...I hardly consider a die grinder and a dremmel tools to be accurate enough to open up the inside inlet diameter (otherwise, I would have ported that too), as I wouldn't want to have any inconsistancies in the finished to disrupt the turbine's airflow. -I would even be skeptical about using a drillpress and a solid jig (even if I had them in my shop). I did however open up as much of the J-Pipe's outlet diameter, and modified an OE gasket by removing almost 3mm in diameter worth of gasket material. But you are right, he DID say "OUTLET SIZE"...

Hey Leland,
Were you talking about the hole that you mount the J-Pipe to or the compressor housing's INLET where the pipe from the air filter goes into the turbo? I thought that you were refering to the compressor's INLET, not the OUTLET.

:D (I guess I should READ THE POST MORE CLEARLY NEXT TIME) :D

...that is what I get for posting after 2 am... :D

I was refering to the compressor outlet. the part the j pipe mounts to. i've figured out that the compressor inlet is the same two inches that the 14b is. i was just wondering if the 1and5/8" j pipe I have for my front mount is going to work. thanks for the replies.

I JUST put in an e16g with a 2" j-pipe and the j-pipe was bigger. I would say that the 1 5/8" pipe will fit correctly.

Well, you did said you were going to port it so go figure

Not necessarily. You don't need to port EVERYTHING. Some people's goals are different.

My bad, I thought you were referring to inlet too  No more posts for me anymore, Imma keep my mouth shut.
